In this review for 2024, we’ll cover the Hiboy NEX; a remarkably cost-effective yet fully functional folding eScooter. After releasing this year, this model has already received a number of positive reviews, fast becoming a fan favourite. Before starting with speed, power & distance, a brief overview surrounding what this eScooter contains.
Every order contains the scooter, charger, a toolkit & user manual, alongside 3 months warranty for official purchases. Marketed towards teens & adults, its clear that this eScooter is perfect for commuting and casual rides alike, all for an incredible price. Honestly, we were seriously surprised with such performance offered for the price. So without further delay, lets start our 2024 Hiboy NEX eScooter review.

How fast does it go?
A 250W motor propels this cost-effective commuting eScooter to a top speed of approx. 13 mp/h (20.9 km/h).
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Hiboy themselves state that this model is intended for teenagers and adults alike, supporting weights between 55-180 lbs (25-81 kg).
What is the range/distance?
Riders should expect an average max. range of around 13 miles (20.9 km). However, please note that variables such as rider weight, incline, terrain, etc. will affect overall performance.
Can it be used offroad?
Whilst this model offers limited off-road functionality, we heavily recommend sticking to flat & smooth surfaces as intended. Those riding off-road will notice a significant loss of grip, control and performance.
Does it lose power uphill?
This model performs surprisingly well uphill for its price range, capable of tackling inclines of up to 15 degrees. Any steeper than this and we notice a fairly significant drop in performance. However, 15 degrees is still a great hill-climbing capacity for such a low-cost scooter. Lastly, please note that rider weight, terrain, etc. will impact performance.

How long does it take to charge?
Bolstered by a 36V 5Ah Li-ion battery, riders can charge from empty in 4-6 hours. However as the battery is integrated, riders must charge from the deck, which can be cumbersome at times.
How long will the battery last for?
As a high-quality Lithium-ion battery, riders should expect somewhere between 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. For some perspective, it would take approx. 2-3+ years of daily charging to reach this point. Alongside this, Hiboy also stock a number of spare parts & accessories, should you need any replacements.

Moving our Hiboy NEX 2024 review onto design & ergonomics. To begin, the LED display is perfectly situated in the centre, allowing riders to easily check their speed, battery life & more; all at a brief glance. Choose between 2 speed modes, beginner mode & advanced mode, each offering their own levels of speed/acceleration & power. Cruise control is another great feature that we were surprised to see, especially on such a cost-effective eScooter. This fantastic feature allows you to give your wrist a rest throughout long rides & maintain a consistent speed.
We were further impressed with its remarkable light weight of just 25 lbs (11.3 kg), allowing for effortless transport and storage. Furthermore, the fully folding frame allows riders to pack and pick up their ride in a matter of seconds, another plus for commuters. Aesthetically, the design is sleek & almost minimalist, giving a very smooth & polished feel to this model. Ergonomically speaking, the Hiboy NEX offers a comfortable ride. The spacious deck allows enough room for manoeuvrability and room for whatever stance you choose. Riding is much like riding any other scooter, so those who know how to ride will have no problems mastering this model.

What brakes does the Hiboy NEX have?
Unspecified brake type, however riders can brake by either using the electric or foot brake. We recommend contacting the supplier for more information regarding brake type (disc, drum, electric, etc).
Is it foldable?
Yes, the frame of this model is fully folding, allowing for quick, easy & compact transport or storage.
Does it connect to your smartphone?
No, unfortunately there is no Bluetooth or mobile app compatibility with this model.
Does it work as a regular scooter?
Yes – riders should have no problem putting their foot to the floor and working those legs.
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our 2024 Hiboy NEX review onto build quality & ease of use. Once more, we were surprised with the stellar build quality of this scooter, especially considering its price. The frame is robust, refusing to bend, warp, or dent from a number of hits and drops. Dual lighting is utilised to better illuminate the path ahead. Whilst Hiboy could have settled for a single LED, they utilised dual lighting; greater ensuring both visibility and rider safety. Whilst the source remains unknown, the use of Lithium-ion battery cells is always a plus. These Li-ion cells are known to perform better & last longer than their counterparts.
In terms of ease of use, this scooter rides much like every other, with experienced riders having no trouble mastering this model in minutes. The LED display is centrally situated, allowing for quick & effortless speed/battery life checks at a mere glance. Newer riders can easily utilise beginner mode, which limits speed & power until you’re ready to step it up to advanced mode. Whilst the max. payload of 180 lbs (81 kg) is a little low in comparison to competitors, it still supports 7.2 times its own weight of 25 lbs. All in all, we were very surprised with both the brilliant build quality & performance offered by this model.
How easy is it to carry?
Pretty easy – With a light weight of just 25 lbs (11.3 kg) and fully folding frame, riders should have no issues folding, transporting or storing their ride.
How smooth is the ride?
Provided riders stick to flat & even surfaces as intended, the NEX offers a suitably smooth ride. However, due to a lack of suspension and off-road functionality, bumpier terrains are clearly felt and can potentially compromise rider control. As such, please stick to the pavement, bike lane or road!

Moving on to the most important section of our Hiboy NEX review for 2024; safety & usability on the road. This models starts strong, featuring dual bright LED headlights, perfect for maintaining visibility whilst staying seen on dark days. Alongside this, a rear brake light also alerts those behind you to your presence, greater increasing safety. Unfortunately, details regarding brake type remain a mystery. From what we can see, it looks like the rear wheel utilises a mechanical disc brake; offering some fairly responsive stopping power.
For its price, the top speed & range offered is great, however 13 mp/h is still relatively slow compared to other vehicles. We believe this safe top speed reduces the risk of injury, should any riders rear-end someone in front or fall off their ride. In terms of roadside usability, its clear that this model was only intended for use on smooth, flat surfaces such as the roadside or pavement. As such, we advise sticking to these terrains for the best riding experience. Lastly, we insist that riders wear adequate safety gear when riding on the road, including reflective clothing, gloves, helmet, etc.
