Welcome to our ever-so ‘Xciting’ Xiaomi 1S review for 2024. In this section, we’ll try to cover all the specs, stats and features this eScooter seems full of. For starters, it offers great performance at incredible value for money; resulting in a ride a lot cheaper than competitors, yet no less powerful.
Much like many e-scooters these days, the frame is fully folding; allowing riders to easily pack up, store & transport their ride whenever required. However, what we found really cool was the regenerative braking, which we discuss more about under battery life & charging. Briefly speaking, this regenerative braking converts kinetic brake energy into power, helping you push for that extra mile.
Whilst Xiaomi officially state a recommended age of 16+, please note that the max. supported weight for this eScooter is 100 kg. Those unable to ride should likely ditch the electric scooters and pick up some running shoes, if possible. Moving on, the Xiaomi 1S boasts an awesome aerospace-grade aluminium alloy frame; resulting in a remarkably robust ride that’s also incredibly lightweight, weighing just 12.5 kg. This super light weight coupled with a folding frame further make transportation and storage a breeze. In fact, such a weight makes this one of the lightest electric scooters currently available, well worth the price.

Moving our Xiaomi 1S review onto the ever important speed, power & distance stats. To begin, the 1S is powered by a modest 250W front-wheel motor, propelling it to a decent top speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mp/h). We were fairly surprised with this top speed, seeing as typically mightier motors are required for such speeds. We believe that the Xiaomi 1S can achieve this, due to its incredibly light weight. The responsive rear disc brakes also allowed us to make sharp stops on demand, more of which we discuss later in our roadside usability section.
Furthermore, this superb scooter also offers a range of up to 30 km (18.5 miles), which is fairly decent for a model of this calibre. Riders also have three modes to choose from, ranging from Speed mode, Cruise mode & Pedestrian mode; each offering different speeds & allowing you to always adapt to your surroundings. Whilst these figures might seem average at best, it’s worth remembering the price tag, making this one cost-effective & high performing scooter.

Xiaomi state the 1S to most suit riders over the age of 16+. Furthermore, please note that this model claims to support weights of up to 100 kg (220 lbs), please bear this in mind. Lastly, variables such as weight, terrain, incline, etc. will impact overall performance.

Boasting a beefy lithium-ion battery, the 1S offers a large power supply synonymous with safe & durable performance. This model further claims fifth generation SBMS (smart battery management system). This features six smart protections, keeping the battery safe & ensuring an extended battery life. These SMBS’s typically protect against overvoltage, overcurrent, overcharging, overheating and more.
Riders can easily download the Mi Home app to their phone, allowing them to monitor thee condition of their battery; with the app alerting them immediately to any faults. Whilst not removable, the battery is smoothly integrated within the frame, with no exposed electricals or compromise on design. Lastly, regenerative braking was a great addition and one we didn’t expect to see from a model of this price. Kinetic braking energy is converted, in turn powering the motor & helping you squeeze out that extra mile.

Battery protection & safety
Smart BMS (Smart Battery Management System) protects against over-voltage, over-current, over-heating, etc. Furthermore, the battery is fully integrated within the frame, protecting against physical threats and exposure to the elements. Learn more about battery management systems here.
How long will the battery last for?
On average, lithium-ion batteries last for approx. 500-1000+ charge cycles before issues arise. Premium quality lithium-ion batteries typically last for the latter of this figure. For some perspective, even if you charged & rode this folding eScooter on a daily basis, it would still take 2-3 years to reach this point.

Diverting our 2024 Xiaomi 1S review to design & ergonomics; both of which this cost-effective commuter’s choice excel at. Whilst maintaining that trademark Mi M365 aesthetic, Xiaomi have continued to innovate on their design. The inclusion of regenerative braking is an awesome addition & one we were especially surprised to find on such a low-cost escooter.
Whilst still using air-filled tires susceptible to puncturing, they’ve filled them with puncture protection fluid; allowing riders to soldier on should they run over something sharp. This also gives riders much more control when these events do occur; especially important in terms of roadside safety.
We were slightly concerned with the lack of any mentioned suspension, of which the Xiaomi 1S certainly is lacking. Whilst pneumatic tires absorb some of the impact, we would have really benefitted from at least some rear suspension. This solidifies our sentiment that the Xiaomi 1S is strictly designed for roadside use.
Riders from Europe can rest assured, this model meets all EU requirements and likely fully legal in your region. As previously mentioned, the fully folding frame coupled with light weight make transporting & storing this eScooter extremely easy.

Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our Xiaomi 1S review onto build quality & ease of use. In terms of build quality, this model certainly is up there; especially when you consider the competitive price tag. Boasting an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy that results in a highly durable yet lightweight ride; making it obvious that this is one strong yet versatile eScooter. Regenerative braking is a remarkable addition, a feature typically reserved for higher-end models.
The previously mentioned Smart Battery Management System also attests to its brilliant build quality; keeping both battery and rider protected from a variety of potential faults. To further attest to its overall build quality, this model also meets all strict European standards; resulting in a road-legal eScooter in most nations.
Ergonomically speaking, the Xiaomi 1S is extremely easy to use. Again, the folding frame makes packing, transporting and commuting as easy as ever. Combined with the ludicrously light weight of 12.5 kg results in extremely easy transportation.
However, whilst weighing just 12.5 kg, this superior scooter supports weights of up to 100 kg (220 lbs); 8 times its own weight. Xiaomi have seemingly spared no expensive, shorting few features and utilising a number of superior materials & design choices throughout production.

Switching to arguably the most important section of our Xiaomi 1S review for 2024; safety & usability on the road. As we all know, roadside rider safety is of upmost importance, as one mistake could be life-changing. Starting out with safety, the 1S employs a variety of features to protect the rider, such as SBMS, puncture-protected tires and responsive brakes.
However, we believe that keeping it cost-effective meant a sacrifice to suspension, with this model claiming little to no shock absorption; outside of the two pneumatic tires, which really don’t feel enough. Of course, riders will have no problem with this lack of suspension, should they stick to flat & even roads.
In fact, we believe the Xiaomi 1S only suitable for roadside use, due to the lack of any off-road functionality. Briefly on the topic of brakes, the rear disc brakes were remarkably responsive; allowing us to make sharp & sudden stops on demand. This model also claims front & rear LED lighting coupled with side reflectors offer greater awareness, allowing riders to see, stay seen & most importantly, stay safe.
Furthermore, an integrated horn allows riders to easily alert clueless pedestrians and other traffic to their presence.
