Qualisports Volador Foldable eBike 2020 Review & Overview
Starting off our 2020 Qualisports Volador review with a quick overview. This foldable eBike weighs just 36 lbs (16.3 kg) and quickly folds for compact storage and transportation. A fully folding and incredibly lightweight frame makes for a great commuting eBike. Shimano 7-speed transmission also allows riders to always find the perfect speed for their needs. Effortlessly glide for miles thanks to cruise control, one of four riding modes. Feel the burn in pedal-only & pedal-assist mode, or go easy on throttle-only and cruise control. Furthermore, riders will cruise in near silence, thanks to the brushless 350W motor; propelling the Volador to speeds of up to 20 mp/h (32 km/h).
This commuting eBike also offers a decent range of approx. 25 miles (40 km), thanks to the 36V 7Ah Samsung battery. This premium quality Lithium-ion battery is of exceptional quality; making the Volador one of the fastest charging electric bikes we’ve reviewed. Take a look below at our battery life & charging section for more information. Spare yourself the stress and time, the Volador comes fully assembled. Simply unpack, unfold, connect the battery and away you go. Qualisports also currently include a fender set, flash light with batteries, a bell and tool bag for any future repairs; further offering 1 year warranty on all official purchases. This warranty covers the whole bike and also includes 2 year battery coverage. Please continue reading our 2020 Qualisports Volador review to learn about the speed, power and range offered below.
Speed, Power & Distance
For the price, the Qualisports Volador offers a decent top speed and range. The brushless 350W motor quietly pushes this folding eBike to speeds of up to 20 mp/h (32 km/h). As previously mentioned, the beefy battery also offers a range of up to 25 miles (40 km). Riders willing to lend a leg in either of the pedal riding modes are rewarded with extended range and battery life; alongside a possibly faster top speed. What’s more, the motor also offers a decent amount of torque; further enabling the Volador to tackle inclines of up to 18 degrees. Combined with grippy, 20″ air-filled tires also make this a suitable eBike for climbing hills. However, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, weather, etc. will affect overall performance.
How fast does it go?
Throttle-only top speed of up to 20 mp/h (32 km/h).
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Although we found no official statement on the recommended age, we believe the Volador best suits teens and adults aged 13+. Thanks to the lightweight yet mighty aluminium alloy frame, the Volador supports weights of up to 220 lbs (100 kg). Especially impressive when you consider that it weighs just 36 lbs (16.3 kg). Lastly, whilst the seat and handlebars are fully height adjustable, this foldable eBike best suits riders between 5′ – 6’3″.
What is the range/distance?
Throttle-only range of up to 25 miles (40 km). Riders utilising pedal-only or pedal assist mode should expect extended range and battery life.
Battery Life & Charging
Moving on to the battery life & charging section of our Qualisports Volador 2020 review. As mentioned, the Volador certainly boasts a beast of a 36V 7Ah Samsung battery. This premium quality Lithium-ion battery allows for a remarkably rapid charge time of just 3 hours; making the Volador one of the fastest charging electric bikes we’ve reviewed to date. Truly incredible performance for the price; considering many similar spec’d models often require much longer charge times of 8+ hours. For most fast charging eBikes, overall power and range is often sacrificed. However, this is not the case for the Volador; still offering a decent 20 mp/h speed and also 25 mile range. Qualisports also include 2 year warranty on the battery, keeping you covered should any faults arise.
How long does it take to charge?
3 hours – this rapid charge time makes the Qualisports Volador one of the fastest charging electric bikes we’ve reviewed.
Battery protection & safety
Unspecified. Whilst many electric bikes offer moderate water resistance, we recommend contacting the supplier to confirm this. However, an interesting concept is the battery located in seat tube; coming with both pros and cons. For starters, the battery remains very safe, clean and discreet inside the tube. However, riders are unable to modify the standard seat post to a more accommodating suspension seat post. Alongside this, it also limits the battery to just one type and size.
How long will the battery last for?
An average quality Lithium-ion battery offers a lifespan of approx. 500-1000+ charge cycles. As a premium quality Samsung battery, riders should expect the latter of the spectrum before any faults arise. For perspective, even if you charged and rode the Volador daily, it would still take around 2-3+ years to reach this stage. Furthermore, Qualisports offer 2 years warranty on the battery; giving you that extra peace of mind.
Design and Ergonomics
Moving on to the design & ergonomics section of our Qualisports Volador review for 2020. Starting off with the frame; forged from durable yet highly lightweight aluminium alloys, the Qualisports Volador weighs just 36 lbs (16.3 kg). Whilst weighing so little, the Volador still supports up to 220 lbs (100 kg), 6 times its own weight. Furthermore, the fully foldable frame results in quick & easy storage, transportation and more; making the Volador a great eBike for commuting.
When folded, riders can push the seat tube through the frame, acting as an makeshift chair; great for downtime during your daily commute when waiting for busses and trains. Alongside this, the low down, walk-through frame accommodates for mobility issues and elderly riders. No more must riders hoist their leg over a waist high frame every time they mount/dismount. This type of frame design has become common amongst many foldable electric bikes; as it also allows for a more compact design whilst freeing up space.
The conveniently situated interactive LCD display displays speed, distance, cruise control function, light status and much more. As previously mentioned, the battery is located in the seat tube; keeping it safe, clean and discreet inside the tube. Although, this does come with downsides and brings us to one of the few things letting the Volador down; lack of suspension. Bar a front fork, riders receive no compensation for bumpy rides and uneven terrain; making the Volador unsuitable for extended journeys, off-roading, etc. As such, many might have considered adding a suspension seat post; however this is impossible, due to the battery location. However, this foldable electric bike is still suitable for short commutes and rides well on smooth terrain.
What material is it made from?
Aluminium alloy frame & handlebars, stainless steel spokes, rubber tires and hand grips.
Can it be used as a regular bike?
Yes – Feel free to choose between 4 ride modes; ranging from pedal assist, pedal-only, throttle-only and cruise control.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
No – Unfortunately, we were unable to find any Bluetooth or mobile app support.
Build quality and ease of use
The Volador boasts a solid design and build quality; capable of supporting 220 lbs, 6 times its own weight. Alongside this, the battery and materials used throughout manufacturing are clearly of premium quality. The Samsung battery is a huge green flag, showing us that Qualisports take pride in their work; without any compromise in quality. Qualisports also offer 1 year warranty for the bike, alongside an extended 2 year coverage for the battery. This shows us the confidence Qualisports have in the Volador, whilst giving riders ride relaxed and stress-free. Alone, the Wuxing mechanical disc brakes are nothing special.
However, the motor inhibitor feature makes a great addition, ensuring the shortest possible stopping distance. In terms of ease of use, this foldable eBike is extremely easy to mount, ride and dismount. The previously mentioned walk-through frame accommodates for elderly riders and those with mobility issues; alongside the lightweight, easily folding frame allowing for effortless storage. However, a lack of suspension results in a pretty bumpy ride depending on your terrain. This makes the Volador best suited for short journeys and smooth terrain; quite unfortunate, considering the decent range offered.
Safety and usability on the road
Moving on to arguably one of the most important sections of our 2020 Qualisports Volador review; safety and usability on the road. Although lights aren’t built in, the Volador includes a flash light with batteries, fender kit, a bell and tool bag. Thanks to the addition of these attachable LED headlights, we believe the Volador suitable for roadside use. However, we insist that riders attach these lights, alongside wearing appropriate safety gear; such as high-visibility clothing, helmet and gloves. Whilst air-filled 20″ tires offer some recourse on rough roads, they are susceptible to punctures… Suddenly that tool bag just became incredibly important.
Whilst air-filled tires can puncture, they’re also much cheaper and easier to replace than solid-rubber tires. The stealthy 350W brushless motor offers a decent amount of torque; allowing the Volador to tackle inclines of up to 18 degrees and making this folding electric bike capable of climbing small hills. However, the lack of suspension really lets the Volador down. Because of this, extended journeys on uneven terrain and bumpy roads become a nightmare. As such, we recommend sticking to smooth surfaces and avoiding tricky terrain.
Is the Qualisports Volador waterproof?
Unspecified. Learn about IP ratings here.
