Overview

Nanrobot D4+ vs D5+ Overview

All in all, both of these models are very similar in features and performance. However, there are a few key differences, mostly in speed and range offered. As expected, the D5+ offers increased performance in regards to speed and range, however even this is only marginal. As previously mentioned, both models are powered by silent yet powerful 1000W dual brushless motors; this in turn enables top speeds of 38 & 40 mp/h.

Both the D4+ & D5+ further feature head, tail and sidelights – aiding in easy visibility at night for both the rider and any cars or pedestrians.  The aluminium alloy frame is both lightweight, sturdy and durable, capable of supporting up to 150 kg (330 lbs). Switch between front, rear and all wheel drive at the press of a button.

As mentioned, these models are extremely similar, even weighing the same at a comparatively heavy 31.7 kg (70 lbs). We say relatively heavy, as most scooters are normally around the 20kg mark; however, 31 kg is still light enough for many riders to transport. Speaking of transportation, both models are easy to fold and ready for transporting in seconds.

The biggest difference between these models is probably the price tag, and even then that’s also very closely tied; with the D5+ costing a little more. One noticeable difference between the two is that the D5+ design looks considerably less clunky, alongside seemingly updated brake discs and sleeker suspension. Lastly, Nanrobot offer up to 1 year warranty on both models, with 180 days warranty for the battery on all official purchases.

Speed, Power & Distance

Speed, Power & Distance

Both models offer similar performance regarding speed, power and distance, with both models running on a brushless 1000W motor. How fast does it go?

Nanrobot D4+ – 38 mp/h (61 km/h)

Nanrobot D5+ – 40 mp/h (64 km/h)

What age/weight is it suitable for?

Whilst no age range is recommended, we believe this scooter most suited to ages 13+, due to the high top speed and no confirmed speed settings; although there are reports stating that there are 3 “speed indicators”.

However, we can confirm that this strong e-scooter supports a seriously impressive max. weight of up to 150 kg (330 lbs). Please note, heavier riders should expect reduced performance in battery life, max. speed/range, etc.

What is the range/distance?

Design & Ergonomics

Design and Ergonomics

The design for both models are remarkably similar, however both are clearly up to standard with many eScooter models on the market. Alongside this, riders also have the option for an additional seat upgrade for a little extra.

Both the Nanrobot D4+ & D5+ are designed with portability in mind; further featuring a quick folding mechanism to help you fold/unfold your e-scooter in seconds. The LCD display on the handlebar help you know just how fast you’re going and how much battery you have. This display is conveniently located by the gear shift/accelerator.

On the D4+, we noticed an energy saving mode also located on the handlebar. Whilst this will obviously prolong battery life, we were unable to reach an accurate conclusion as to how much longer this will allow the battery to last, alongside the impact on performance.

Riders will always stay seen and safe at all hours, thanks to the front and rear head/brake lights; furthermore, these models are one of the few scooters to offer a full-wheel drive mode, although with great power comes great responsibility – make sure you’re ready!

What material is it made from?

Both eScooter frame models are fashioned from a relatively lightweight yet durable aluminium alloy. The 10″ pneumatic tires are fashioned from rubber and greatly aid in traction control.

Can it be used as a regular scooter?

Yes – Since there is no auto-locking mechanism when the eScooter runs out of battery, riders will have no trouble using their legs to start moving.

Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?

No – there is no app support mentioned and we were unable to find any Nanrobot mobile app on either iOS or Google Play.

Build quality and ease of use

As previously mentioned, both of these models are a little heavier than most (31 kg / 70 lbs), however both models make up for it with incredible sturdiness and an all round solid build. The materials used in producing these scooters are clearly up there, offering quality front/rear disc brakes and ample/shock absorption.

10″ pneumatic tires aid in both traction control and shock absorption, with rubber comfort grip handles to ensure your hands don’t slip. All the controls are conveniently located on the handlebar near the LCD display; this shows you how much battery you have, your speed and what drive mode you’re in.

The D4+ has the option to switch between power saving mode, and both models also have the capacity to switch wheel drive modes. This ranges from front, rear and all wheel drive, boosting your motor power to 2000W on the latter. As previously mentioned, riders have the option to pay a little extra and acquire an additional seat for their e-scooter.

All in all, when it comes to the D4+ vs D5+, both  offer a very comfortable yet sturdy riding experience and high build quality. However, one thing worth noting is the apparent lack of speed controls, making this one more suited to those who are already seasoned riders.

Safety & Usability on the road

Safety and usability on the road

With both front and rear head/brakelights, staying seen and safe on the road won’t be an issue. Furthermore, 10″ pneumatic tires and ample suspension offer increased traction control and shock absorption, allowing for a more comfortable and safer ride. Both the D4+ & D5+ boast top speeds that exceed the average speed limit in most towns (30 mp/h). This helps ensure that you can get a move on when needed, and that you’re not too slow to be a danger on the roads.

With such a long range offered on both models, standing up for the entire duration is a little tiring; as such, Nanrobot also offer an additional seat option at a slightly increased cost, perfect for those longer commutes. All in all, both models are perfectly suitable for roadside use and in fact perform best on flat, even roads.

Is the Nanrobot D4+ / D5+ waterproof?

Both models have an IP53 waterproof rating, meaning that they offer moderate protection against dust and mild water pressure. Whilst water resistance is offered, we wouldn’t recommend riding in storms or submerging your electric scooter for any period of time.  Learn more about IP waterproof ratings here.

Honorary mention: Nanrobot LS7

Although too big of a difference to feature when comparing D4+ vs D5+ models, we believe that the LS7 still deserved an honourable mention. Think of this model as the juiced up cousin of both the D4/D5+; boasting an incredible 100km range, x2 1800W dual drive engines and a potent max. speed of 52 mp/h (85 km/h). Although currently unavailable and nearly double the price of its cousins, the Nanrobot LS7 is definitely worth watching out for.

Nanrobot D5+ Electric Scooter Side

Restrictions and availability

With licensed vendors operating in both the US and EU, we believe both models are offered throughout these continents. Whether or not Oceania, Africa and any other locations are covered is another question.

Furthermore, we also recommend you check your local laws and regulations surrounding the legalities of owning and riding these e-scooters, either on your property or on the road.

A final note to conclude: Those savings focused commuters and riders are likely going to favour the slightly cheaper D4+ model; however, those seeking speed and performance will likely best suit the D5+.

The latter definitely does feature a sleeker design with updated brake discs and suspension, although it does also cost a bit more. Either way, these are two high performance e-scooters and aren’t aimed at the casual commuter, so bear that in mind.
