For starters, the Samsung battery already tells us that Ecotric take quality control seriously; using superior Lithium-ion batteries and a highly durable aluminium alloy frame. Although a little heavier than conventional folding eBikes at 62 lbs (28kg), this electric mountain bike supports weights of up to 265 lbs (120 kg); just over 4 times its own weight.
Lastly, 1 year extended warranty is offered on all official purchases, battery included. This surely attests to Ecotric and the trust they have for their eBikes. So without further delay, let’s begin our Ecotric Tornado review for 2024, starting with speed.

The official top speed of the Ecotric Tornado remains unspecified, due to a programmable maximum speed. This feature allows riders to adapt their top speed to the local regulations of any country. By default, all Ecotric bicycles abide by a set speed limit according to United States federal regulations. However, we believe that this electric mountain bike certainly packs a punch; incorporating a 750W rear hub motor powered by a 48V 12AH battery and propelling riders for up to 40 miles (60 km).
Riders also have the choice to switch between throttle-only and pedal-assist modes. Those who do decide to lend a leg are rewarded with extended battery life, range and potentially speed. Using nothing but throttle-only mode, riders should expect a range of approx. 25 miles (40 km); whereas more active riders will enjoy ranges of approx. 37 miles (60 km). The Tornado mountain eBike also features Shimano 7-Speed indexing, always giving you the perfect gear. Lastly, please note that variables such as weight, terrain, incline, weather, etc. will affect overall performance.

Whilst we found no official statement on the recommended age, we believe the Ecotric Tornado to best suit upwards of 13+. For starters, this certainly isn’t babies first eBike; boasting a powerful 750W motor and traditional mountain bike frame. Alongside this, the recommended rider height is between 5’3″ – 6’3″, making it unsuitable for some. What is the range/distance?
Approx. 25-37 mile (40-60 km) range, with throttle-only & pedal assist modes available. Keep pushing those pedals in assist mode and expect the latter range of 60 km. Alongside this, the removable battery allows riders to swap out with a spare; effectively doubling and tripling your range.

Moving on to the battery section of our 2024 Ecotric Tornado review. For starters, the 48V 12AH Samsung Lithium-ion battery clearly shows promise; even offering up to 1 year warranty, battery included. As such, we can expect the battery to last a decent amount of time before expecting any faults. Alongside this, Ecotric also offer spare/replacement batteries for the Tornado, should any such fault arise. Furthermore, thanks to the fully removable battery, riders can stockpile batteries on the go; effectively doubling, tripling or even quadrupling their range.
However, a relatively lacklustre charge time of 6-8 lets this mountain eBike down somewhat. Whilst many similarly performing competitors often take in excess of 8-12+ hours, we still feel it could do better. Unspecified – Whilst we found no official statement regarding battery protection; many similarly priced competitors feature Smart Battery Systems and protection against overvoltage, overcharge, etc. As such, we believe it likely Ecotric have put some kind of system in place. How long will the battery last for?
The premium quality Samsung Lithium-ion battery has an average lifespan of 400-600 charge cycles. For some perspective, it would take 2+ years to reach this point, even when charging and using your bike daily. Alongside this, Ecotric also offer 1 year extended warranty, including the battery; giving you that extra peace of mind should any faults arise.

Aesthetically speaking, the Ecotric Tornado incorporates a number of traditional bike features; including a full-size frame, kickstand, 26″ tires and more. Another thing worth noting about the frame is its curve; we believe this was added to make mounting/dismounting easy for this mountain eBike. This frame, alongside the aluminium alloy used to fashion it likely attribute to the strength of the Tornado.
As previously mentioned, this electric mountain bike weighs just 62 lbs (28 kg) yet supports up to 265 lbs (120 kg); over 4 times its own weight. The perfectly situated central display indicates battery life, speed, ride mode and more. The kickstand featured is much larger and more robust than conventional designs, alongside featuring added grip. Featuring a thick, solid design and made from a hard rubber, offering greater grip on multiple terrains. Pull up and park your mountain eBike with ease.
Safe & sensationally sturdy
Further featuring an integrated headlight & reflective trips on the side spokes of each tire, helping ensure visbility; more of which we discuss in our safety & usability on road section. Shimano 7-speed indexing ensures that you’ll always have the perfect gear to match your speed. However, Ecotric also ensure that you have the means to stop at such speeds; incorporating highly responsive front & rear disc brakes.
The previously mentioned removable battery is a great feature, allowing riders to safeguard or store it elsewhere. Alongside this, it also opens up the opportunity to double and triple your battery life by swapping them out. All in all, Ecotric have certainly designed the Tornado for use as a mountain eBike. Boasting bold, 26″ fat-tires, offering greater grip and control on a variety of tricky terrains.
Robust, versatile & classy
Whilst we found no official statement on the climb grade of the Tornado; we believe that 750W engine certainly hides some hill-climbing power. We recommend contacting Ecotric for those who still wish for an exact figure on climb grade. However, its clear that Ecotric have designed the Tornado to function on a multitude of terrains and environments.
Ergonomically speaking, the Tornado boasts comfortable yet grippy stitched leatherette handles, adding an air of class to your ride. Alongside this, the seat is fully height adjustable, allowing all riders to accommodate their height.
The previously mentioned frame-dip allows for easier mounting/dismounting; however, elderly riders or those with mobility issues would benefit from a low-frame foldable electric bike. Ecotric have certainly delivered on this one, truly an ideal, cost-effective electric mountain bike.
What material is it made from?

Can it be used as a regular bike?
Yes – riders can choose from throttle-only and varying levels of pedal assist. Furthermore, those who do lend a leg should expect an extended range and battery life for their bike.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
No – unfortunately we were unable to find any evidence of mobile app/Bluetooth support for the Tornado mountain eBike.
Build quality and ease of use
As previously mentioned, the build quality for the Ecotric Tornado electric mountain bike is exceptionally high. For starters, the high strength aluminium alloy offers both durability and lightweight; resulting in the Tornado supporting over 4 times its own weight.
Alongside this, Ecotric source premium quality Lithium-ion batteries directly from Samsung; even offering an extended 1 year warranty for the entire bike, battery included. This should serve to help give an idea how seriously Ecotric take quality control and customer satisfaction.
Smoothly tackles tricky terrains
Throughout the design, minor innovations had us turning our heads; such as the juiced up kickstand, much more robust and grippier than conventional designs. The 26″ air-filled tires offer greater grip and control, alongside offering some degree of suspension. However, air-filled tires are susceptible to puncturing and going flat; although also much cheaper and easier to replace than solid rubber tires.
Aluminium alloy suspension fork and air rear shock ensure the smoothest ride possible, whatever the terrain. Alongside this, the seat also features suspension comfort, minimising impacts and offering much greater comfort when riding. Furthermore, we believe decent suspension an important safety factor; its much harder to steer and concentrate when you’re taking harsh hits, in turn potentially endangering you. Thanks to the superior suspension offered by this electric mountain bike, you need not worry.
Suitable for both on & off-road use
In terms of ease of use, the Ecotric Tornado is extremely easy and comfortable for a 65 kg, 6’2 rider. The frame allows for easy mounting/dismounting whilst retaining a strong core and traditional mountain bike frame. Furthermore, the handle grips offer both comfort and control when riding.
Tackling tricky terrains and inclines posed no issue either, with the Tornado mountain eBike dominating grass, sand, mud, small hills and more. Moving on to arguably the most important section of our 2024 Ecotric Tornado Mountain eBike review; safety and usability on the road. For starters, the integrated headlight offers a good start, allowing riders to see and stay seen during darker days.
The Tornado further features reflective strips on the spoke sides, also helping to ensure visibility and a safer ride. Moving on, the dual front & rear hydraulic disc brakes allow riders to make sharp and sudden stops on demand. This is especially important during roadside use, as split-second stopping power makes all the difference.
Whilst certainly designed as an off-road electric mountain bike, the Ecotric Tornado still offers roadside capacity; although some aftermarket extras may need purchasing to ensure maximum safety. These aftermarket extras would include a bell/horn to alert others, alongside a rear brake light. We believe rear brake lights especially important on roadside use. Riding in the dark with traffic coming up behind and no lighting invites disaster.
Stay safe, no matter the hour
Furthermore, we insist that riders wear adequate safety gear when riding in the dark; including a high-visibility jacket, helmet, gloves, etc. The excellent suspension offered by this electric mountain bike helps ensure the smoothest ride possible.
We found this especially important, as a rough ride reduces awareness and control; both of which are crucial when riding on the road. To conclude this section, we believe the Tornado offers both off and on-road functionality, with the latter requiring some aftermarket extras.
Is the Ecotric Tornado waterproof?
Unspecified – Unfortunately, we were unable to find any official statement on the waterproof rating for the Tornado. Many similarly priced competitors offer resistance against moderate sustained water splashes and dust ingress.
