Overview
Apollo Ultra eScooter Review & Overview
Welcome to our 2024 Apollo Ultra eScooter review. This marvellous model is one of, if not the most powerful variant offered by Apollo. As you can see from the key features above, this epic eScooter packs a serious punch. As such, we can only recommend this model for serious riders seeking speed, power and performance. With great power comes great responsibility… alongside quite a hit regarding wallet contents for some.
However, value is relative and we’re sure anyone can find their money’s worth from this monster. Packed full of features and with a brilliant build quality to match, it’s clear this model has reached the upper echelon of electric scooters.
Riders can switch between single & dual motor modes, each offering varying ranges and power; which we discuss in later detail. For starters, all official purchases receive 2 years warranty; alongside those in the US enjoying free continental shipping. Learn more about this sensational scooter in the rest of our review below!
Speed, Power & Distance
Speed, Power & Distance
Starting off our 2024 Apollo Ultra eScooter review with the most exciting section; speed, power & distance. As you may have guessed, this model meets & exceeds all expectations regarding these fields. Powered by dual 1600W motors with a max. output of 6000W, the performance offered is incredible. This 6000W output allows riders to reach speeds of up to 60 mp/h (96.5 km/h); making this one of the fastest electric scooters on the market.
Such speeds even leave scooter specialists feeling a surge of adrenaline. Those setting their sights on such speeds would surely benefit from adequate safety gear; including a helmet, knee-pads, gloves, etc. With such a superb speed comes a range to match, offering distances of up to 60-90 miles; depending on whether you use single/dual motor modes respectively. However, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, weather, etc. will impact overall performance.
On a brief note of safety, we suggest stopping before switching motor modes, as changing mode when moving can cause unwanted braking; potentially compromising rider control. Not only can the Apollo Ultra go the distance, it also humiliates hills with ease. Riders can comfortably tackle inclines of up to 45 degrees, making this model one of the best electric scooters for climbing hills.
Such remarkable range, speed and hill climbing capacity also makes this eScooter suitable for commuters. Although, we feel like that’s akin to showing up for your haircut in a Ferrari. Also, this model is a little heavier than most, which we discuss more of in our design & ergonomics section. Continue reading our 2024 Apollo Ultra review & learn more about what keeps this powerhouse going.
How fast does it go?
This rapid e-scooter reaches speeds of up to 60 mp/h (96.5 km/h). We wholeheartedly recommend wearing protective gear when riding at top speeds, especially on the road.
Recommended age/weight?
Like most of their models, Apollo Scooters recommend the Ultra to riders between the ages of 18 to 60 years. We believe that rider experience is required more than most models regarding this scooter. As such, we find this age range as no surprise. In terms of maximum/recommended loads, this model supports weights of up to 440 lbs (200 kg) whilst weighing 64 lbs (29kg); approx. 4.6 times its own weight.
What is the range/distance?
Max. range of approx. 60-90 miles. This figure depends on the use of single/dual motor modes. Those riding using solely single motor should expect around 90 miles & 60 miles for dual motor.
Battery Life & Charging
Battery Life & Charging
Bringing our 2024 Apollo Ultra eScooter review onto battery life & charging. The beast powering the potent performance discussed above is a premium quality Li-ion 72V 32aH battery; sourced from LG, reputable industry leading suppliers of quality Li-ion cells.
This behemoth battery powers those mighty 1600W motors for ranges of up to 90 miles. Lithium-ion batteries often offer greater performance, last much longer and weigh less than their counterparts. This model further features regenerative braking, converting kinetic braking energy back into battery power; helping you push for that extra mile.
The battery is fully integrated within the frame, offering decent protection against the elements or any harsh hits & crashes. However, this results in riders having to charge the entire scooter instead of just the battery. Alongside this, such a colossal capacity requires a relatively long charge time of approx. ~12 hours.
Whilst this is quite a long time, riders will have a tough time a full charge in one day. Lastly, Apollo Scooters offer a variety of replacement batteries; alongside the 2 year warranty also covering battery faults. Feel free to continue reading for our design & ergonomics section.
How long does it take to charge?
Approx. ~12+ hours from empty.
Battery protection & safety
Undisclosed. Whilst Apollo have made no official statement regarding battery protection & safety for the Ultra, the majority of their models claim a smart power management system. This PMS protects against a host of common battery faults, including: short circuits, over-discharging, temperature regulation, over-current, overcharge and much more.
With the battery fully integrated within the frame, the model can sustain a few brutal bumps without taking damage. This model also claims a waterproof rating of IP56, offering protection from dust ingress and high-pressure water blasts; effectively keeping your battery safe from mother nature’s wrath.
How long will the battery last for?
Li-ion batteries typically last between 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. As a premium quality lithium-ion battery sourced from LG (renowned industry leader), riders should somewhere between 500+ charges. Furthermore, regarding their cheaper models, Apollo themselves estimate an average of 600 charge cycles before any potential faults arise. As such, we can hope the Ultra to last even longer. The Battery Management System/PMS also helps protect against overvoltage, overcurrent and many other common faults; extending battery life. Lastly, riders can easily contact their 7-days a week support team, or source spares & replacements from Apollo’s spare parts section.
Design & Ergonomics
Design and Ergonomics
Moving our 2024 Apollo Ultra review onto design & ergonomics. For starters, whilst offering minimal off-road functionality, the 11″ tires grant great grip & control. They also result in a much cheaper alternative to solid-rubber tires, which are costly to replace.
Much like many of their models, the frame is fully folding; allowing for compact storage and transport. Furthermore, this frame is actually fashioned from aviation grade aluminium alloy; contributing to its hardiness and durability.
Whilst this material surely sheds some weight, the Apollo Ultra eScooter still weighs a substantial 127 lbs (58 kg). As such, we recommend sticking to roads and paths you know you can ride on. Also, although we noticed a lack of lighting, riders can easily pick up some after market lighting at a low cost.
Regardless, this model offers a lovely level of ride comfort, offering a wide & spacious deck which makes manoeuvring easy. All this, coupled with a conveniently situated LCD handlebar display makes using this scooter both easy & comfortable.
What material is it made from?
Aviation-grade aluminium alloy frame, 11-inch rubber pneumatic tires, spring suspension, LG Li-ion cells.
Suitable for use as a regular scooter?
Yes – once you run out of battery or turn off the motor, expect to lend a leg!
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Unfortunately, we were unable to find any Apollo mobile app page, or evidence of Bluetooth support. However, their website does state that the ‘Ludicrous’ model features a dedicated app & phone mount; although this is only compatible for iOS devices.
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our Apollo Ultra review for 2024 onto build quality & ease of use. From what we’ve gathered, this model offers brilliant build quality; utilising aviation-grade aluminium alloy & sourced Li-ion cells from LG, industry leading suppliers. To attest to their own confidence in their models, Apollo also offer up to 2 years warranty on all official purchases. This keeps you safe from any potential faults that could arise in future. Boasting an IP56 waterproof rating, interior electrical components enjoy excellent protection against the elements.
Virtually all cabling is hidden within the interior, offering further protection. Height adjustable handlebars allow riders to effortlessly match their proportions for a more comfortable & bespoke ride. In terms of ease of use, everything about this eScooter is easy; from setting up & riding to stopping and packing. The only two things we could think of that really impacted this was its above average weight of 58 kg (127 lbs) and integrated battery requiring charging via scooter deck. Discover more about this eScooter below, in our safety & usability section.
Safety & Usability on the road
Safety and usability on the road
Switching to one of the most important sections in our 2024 Apollo Ultra eScooter review; safety & usability on the road. Starting off with suspension, which the Ultra definitely has; however the exact nature of this remains undisclosed by Apollo. The rest of their models utilise triple spring suspension, offering a sensationally smooth ride and defends against harsh hits. We believe it more than likely for this model to also adopt such countermeasures against potholes.
11″ pneumatic tires offer greater grip and control, whilst also soaking up some hits and absorbing moderate impacts. Hydraulic oil brakes also allow riders to make sharp & sudden stops on demand. All these features, coupled with a wide & spacious deck greatly improve rider safety. Thanks to this wide deck, falling off whilst riding is actually a challenge, granting plenty of room to move around on.
Whilst the aviation grade aluminium alloy frame is still a little heavy, it can take some huge hits. The astounding acceleration and top speed offered allows riders to easily keep up with any traffic on most roads. Riders can easily switch between single & dual motor mode, depending on how far they need to go and in how long. However, we recommend riders stop before changing motor mode.
Changing whilst moving can cause unwanted breaking, loss of control and potential accidents. Lastly, this scooter seemingly lacks lighting, which is an extremely important feature when riding on roads. We heavily recommend picking up some aftermarket lighting from your store of choice; as well as wearing adequate safety gear when riding on the road or at night. This includes a high-visibility jacket, gloves, helmet, etc.
Is the Apollo Ultra waterproof?
Yes – the Apollo Ultra eScooter claims a waterproof rating of IP56, protecting it against dust ingress & high pressure water blasts. Learn more about IP ratings here.
