Introducing our Hiboy S2 Lite review for 2023. Before we begin, here are a few specs, stats & features included in this low-cost eScooter. From the name alone, its clear that this model is a lighter variant of the S2, opting for less features for a lower price tag. Its frame, whilst still fully folding, is smaller and more compact than its predecessor. As such, this eScooter is highly affordable, making it a great choice for commuters & casual riders alike.
However, regardless of this super cheap cost, Hiboy managed to squeeze in a number of fun & functional features; from lighting & bells to the clearly situated LED dashboard. Riders can enjoy a 12 month official warranty on all purchases, keeping you covered throughout the year. Whatever your reasons for riding, you can’t help but acknowledge the great value on offer. How fast does it go?
Powered by a 250W motor, riders should expect a top speed of approx. 13 mp/h (20.9 km/h). However, please note that variables such as rider weight, incline, terrain, etc. will impact overall performance.
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Hiboy state that this scooter is modelled towards teens & adults. In terms of weight, the S2 Lite supports up to 180 lbs (81 kg) whilst weighing just 21 lbs; 8.5 times its own weight.
What is the range/distance?
Riders should expect an average max. range of 10.6 miles (17 km) per charge
Can it be used offroad?
Due to its nature as a city/street scooter, we recommend sticking to even surfaces such as roads and pavement. Whilst riders can still tackle short grass and dry mud, this comes at a compromise in control & performance. As such, we believe this model is very much a roadside eScooter.
Does it lose power uphill?
Whilst lacking an official hill climb grade from Hiboy, we were able to tackle inclines of up to 10 degrees before noting any loss in power. This is actually fairly decent, considering many similarly priced competitors barely offer even half of the hill climbing capacity. Whilst certainly not a top pick for riders tackling steep hills, we still believe it a suitable electric scooter for commuters. However much like speed/range, variables such as rider weight, terrain, etc. will impact overall performance.

How long does it take to charge?
Unspecified – whilst the official figure remains undisclosed, we found that this model took an average of 5-6 hours to fully charge from empty.
How long will the battery last for?
Unknown – As the battery type remains unspecified, we cannot speculate the average lifespan. Whilst unspecified, it’s likely that the 180 WH integrated battery is made from Lithium-ion cells, much like the rest of their models. Lithium-ion batteries are some of the best performing batteries on the planet, averaging between 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. Hiboy further stock a selection of spare parts & accessories for the S2 Lite & other models. Lastly, riders are covered for up to 12 months, thanks to their standard warranty on all official purchases; keeping you covered should any faults occur in this time.
Design
Design and Ergonomics
Moving our 2023 Hiboy S2 Lite review onto the design & ergonomics section. For starters, its clear that Hiboy have attempted to adopt a more compact design, similar to the S2 yet smaller and lighter. Thanks to this smaller design, transporting and storing your ride just got even easier; making this a great electric scooter for commuters, especially those also utilising public transport. This further results in a light weight of just 21 lbs (9.5 kg), meaning riders will have no issues carrying or moving this model. This minimalist design results in a nearly unbeatable price tag for models of this specification.
Whilst a seriously cheap electric scoter, this model still packs a punch; including features such as a double braking system & integrated bell/kickstand. Riders can easily suit their style from a choice of 3 colours: white, pink & black. The centrally situated dashboard is easy to check & displays speed, battery life, mileage, etc. Ergonomically speaking, whilst small the ride is clearly comfortable, with enough room to stand and move around on. The handlebars offer enough space and great grip, remaining comfortable for sustained periods of time. All in all, a decent design & nice ride for an extremely cost-effective price.

What brakes does the Hiboy S2 Lite have?
This model utilises dual braking in the form of an e-brake and foot brake. Whilst upgraded brakes such as hydraulic disc/drum is always nice, such a low price tag likely won’t allow for it.
Is it foldable?
Yes, the frame of this model is fully folding, allowing for quick, easy & compact transport or storage in a matter of seconds.
Does it connect to your smartphone?
No – Unfortunately, no Bluetooth/mobile app support is offered for this model.
Does it work as a regular scooter?
Yes – Once off or out of battery, feel free to let your legs do all the work!
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our 2023 Hiboy S2 Lite review onto build quality & ease of use. For starters, this model features an integrated battery, located within the frame. Whilst this offers some level of additional protection against harsh hits and weather conditions, it requires riders to charge directly from the frame; which can prove cumbersome at times. However in terms of build quality, we were once again pleasantly surprised by the performance of this low-cost eScooter. Whilst weighing just 21 lbs (9.5 kg), this scooter supports weights of up to 180 lbs (81 kg); just over 8.5 times its own weight!
To further attest to build quality, Hiboy offer free 12 month warranty on all official purchases. This protects riders against any faults not their own in this time, giving you that extra peace of mind. Our only gripe was the lacklustre braking, which whilst still doing its job, could have been better. With a dual foot/electric brake, we found the stopping power decent enough; however disc or drum brakes would be a much better addition. In terms of ease of use, riders will have no issues mastering the model, operating much like many others on the market. Whilst smaller than its predecessor, the S2 Lite still offers ample room to manoeuvre, with a grippy deck and handlebar ensuring continued rider control.
How easy is it to carry?
Very easy – With a weight of just 21 lbs (9.5 kg) and fully folding frame, riders will have no issues packing, transporting or storing their ride wherever they go; further bolstering its position as a great electric scooter for commuters.
How smooth is the ride?
Provided you stick to even surfaces as intended, riders will enjoy a suitably smooth ride. However, due to a lack of suspension, riders must still keep their eyes open for potholes and other bumps in the road.
Safety
Safety and usability on the road
Switching our 2023 Hiboy S2 Lite review onto arguably the most important section; safety & usability on the road. As we know, rider safety is paramount at all times. Thankfully, the S2 Lite incorporates side, bottom & rear lighting; aiding riders in both seeing & staying seen, no matter the hour. Whilst this integrated lighting is an integral feature, we still insist riders wear adequate safety gear when riding on roads or at night. This includes reflective or high-visibility clothing, gloves, helmet, etc.
The bell is another handy feature, perfect for alerting clueless pedestrians and traffic to your existence. In terms of usability, riders should stick to smooth & even roads, avoiding potholes and bumps. Predominantly down to a lack of suspension, harsh hits can cause a compromise in rider control, so take it easy. It’s clear that this model was intended for roadside use, clearly offering minimal off-road functionality and perfectly suited towards inner-city & urban commuters.
