Overview
Inokim Light 2 Review & Overview
Before we begin our 2024 Inokim Light 2 review, we’ll expand your knowledge with a brief overview. Based in Tel Aviv, Israel; the team behind this model have worked tirelessly to produce a great commuting scooter. In fact, Inokim have taken the Middle Eastern region by storm, becoming one of their leading eScooter providers.
As a result, it’s no surprise that this model places itself at the upper end of the spectrum; delivering an ample performance whilst also maintaining fair, competitive pricing. With years of experience and this particular model tested for over 10,000 km, the level of durability and reliability offered from the Light 2 make it a top choice. Feel free to read the rest of our 2024 Inokim Light 2 review and see for yourself.
Speed, Power & Distance
Speed, Power & Distance
Starting off our 2024 Inokim Light 2 review with speed, power and distance. Powered by a moderate 350W motor located in the rear wheel that offers a surprising amount of performance; propelling the Light 2 to speeds of up to 21 mp/h (34 km/h) at a max. output of 650W. We were fairly impressed with this speed, especially when considering the relatively small motor output.
However, the surprises keep coming, this time in the form of 15N.M max. torque output; allowing riders to intimidate a few incessant inclines on their morning commute. Riders can also select from 3 speed modes, each offering varying degrees of power. In mode 3, riders reach max. speed at full throttle, whereas in mode 2 only 70% of max. speed at full throttle. Mode 1 offers a max. speed of under 6.2 mp/h (10 km/h), great for first timers and also any strange speed limits.
Alongside this, it also reaches ranges of up to 23.6 miles (38 km) off a single charge. In terms of speed & range, this model ticks all the boxes to compete with higher-spec models; especially speed, in which the Light 2 matches many high-end models with much larger motors.
We believe this in part thanks to its light weight, weighing just 13.7 kg (30.2 lbs); alongside a highly efficient lithium-ion battery discussed below. Regardless, we never expected such stellar performance from an eScooter this competitively priced. Lastly, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will affect overall performance.
How fast does it go?
21 mp/h (34 km/h), an superb speed considering the motor size.
Recommended age/weight?
Whilst there is no mention of a recommended age, the Inokim Light 2 supports a max. weight of up to 100 kg (220 lbs); 7.2 times its own weight.
What is the range/distance?
23.6 miles (38 km).
Battery Life & Charging
Battery Life & Charging
Bringing our Inokim Light 2 review to the battery life & charging section. The previously mentioned 36V 10.4AH Li-ion battery is to thanks for the remarkable range discussed earlier. These highly efficient Li-ion cells allow for much more compact, lightweight batteries operating at much greater efficiency.
This also aids in some rapid charging rates, with this model charging from empty in just 5 hours; quite a decent time considering many competitors require charge times of 6-8 hours. For any future reference, a battery charger of input: 100-240V/output: 42V 2A is recommended.
Riders can further check their battery status from the LCD display either stationary or on the move. Choosing to integrate the battery within an aluminium deck also offers a moderate additional protection against any bumps & crashes. Although, this does require riders to charge the entire model from the deck, instead of just the battery itself. However, this shouldn’t matter too much for most, seeing as its fully folding frame allows for compact storage.
How long does it take to charge?
5 hours.
Battery protection & safety
Whilst no information is available regarding battery life, modern electric scooters must adhere to strict fire & electrical safety standards. As such, we’d expect Inokim to also follow these practices. Many of these modern models further utilise Battery Management Systems (BMS), protecting against overvoltage, undercurrent, etc. However, we recommend contacting the supplier directly for more information, or learn more about battery management systems here.
How long will the battery last for?
Li-ion batteries usually offer a lifespan of 500-1000+ charge cycles until any issues occur. Using and charging this folding eScooter on a daily basis, it would still take an average of 2-3+ years to reach this point. Premium quality Li-ion batteries often operate at around the latter of this figure; however no information on where these lithium-ion cells were sourced is available. Cells from industry-leading suppliers such as LG & Panasonic typically offer the best performance.
Design & Ergonomics
Design and Ergonomics
Moving our 2024 Inokim Light 2 review onto design & ergonomics. The previously mentioned motor is also brushless, resulting in a remarkably quiet ride. Alongside this, the fully folding frame allows casual riders and commuters alike to easily pack & transport their scooter at a moments notice. Coupled with the its light weight of just 13.7kg makes this an ideal eScooter for commuters.
An aluminium deck allows for a robust yet lightweight and sleek design. Front & rear lighting coupled with brake lights allow for visibility at all hours. An integrated kickstand & mudguard are also a nice addition. Whilst the kickstand allows riders to quickly park or stop, the mudguards feel fairly pointless; predominantly due to a significant lack of suspension and off-road functionality.
Minimal maintenance required
However, 8.5″ pneumatic tires still allow for greater grip and aid in battling some bumps you encounter. Whilst these air-filled tires remain susceptible to puncturing, they’re also far cheaper & easier to replace than solid rubber. Dual drum brakes offer brilliantly responsive braking, whilst also requiring minimal maintenance; as opposed to mechanical & hydraulic brakes that occasionally need tuning.
The conveniently located handlebar display allows effortless checking of travel speed, distance and battery status; whilst also allowing riders to change speed mode, set cruise control & more. This model also comes in a choice of colours; feel free to choose from black, white, blue & orange. All in all, the Inokim Light 2 offers a perfectly functional design for smooth rides on adequate terrain for a fair price & a comfortable ride.
What material is it made from?
Aluminium deck, lithium-ion battery, EVA hand grips.
Suitable for use as a regular scooter?
Yes – expect to lend a leg once you run out of battery!
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
No – unfortunately, we found no evidence of any Bluetooth or mobile app support for this model.
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our 2024 Inokim Light 2 review onto build quality & ease of use. Unfortunately, Inokim reveal little about their production process or their suppliers. However, we do know that this model utilises a number of modern technologies shared with many other high-spec scooters.
The Light 2 incorporates lithium-ion cells, offering a higher efficiency & life span than cheaper alternatives. The aluminium deck offers a lightweight yet durable frame material with dual drum brakes offering superb stopping power.
Although capable of taking some harsh hits, we don’t recommend smashing your scooter too much, as it can dent. One thing worth noting was the lack of suspension, meaning that this is very much a roadside scooter. With only 8.5″ air-filled tires to pacify potholes, try and stick to smooth terrain.
This model even includes the capacity for an additional seat installation, should you wish to cruise in added comfort. Lastly, Inokim offer 1 year warranty on all purchases; offering some assurance of their confidence in quality control. This also keeps riders covered should any faults or issues arise within this time period.
Safety & Usability on the road
Safety and usability on the road
Moving on to the most important section of our Inokim Light 2 review for 2024; safety & usability on the road. As always, rider safety remains a top priority, especially when riding on the road. For starters, the dual drum brakes offer incredibly responsive braking at a moments notice; whilst also requiring minimal maintenance. Coupled with 8.5″ pneumatic tires give additional grip & control, adding to overall stopping power. Brake levers by both hand grips also allow for rapid braking at any time. Personally, we prefer brake levers over electric brakes, as they still operate even with no battery life.
The top speed of 21 mp/h enables you to match most dense urban/residential speed limits (~20 mp/h). Front/rear and brake lighting allow riders to both see & stay seen, even when riding at night and on darker days. However, we still recommend wearing safety gear such as a high-vis jacket, helmet, gloves, etc. when riding at night. Due to the significant lack of suspension, its obvious that the Light 2 is intended for smooth, stable rides with no off-roading; we recommend sticking to roads, sidewalks & even surfaces; however please check the laws & requirements of your region first.
Is the Inokim Light 2 waterproof?
Undisclosed – learn about waterproof ratings here.
Restrictions and availability
From what we know, Inokim ship worldwide and to all continents. However, we again recommend double checking your local laws and ensuring your region accommodates eScooters on the road of sidewalk; alongside their motor output regulations, etc. Thanks for reading our Inokim Light 2 review for 2024, we hope we were able to answer all your questions. Please feel free to leave us a comment if you still have any questions, or think we’ve missed anything.
