Drawing first blood for our 2023 Ninebot E22 Kickscooter review, the speed, power & distance offered is fairly surprising, considering cost. With a nominal output of just 300W, we were blown away by the 12.4 mp/h top speed and 13.7 mile range. Of course, relatively speaking many eScooters on the market outperform this; however very few that sell for the same price match this performance. Furthermore, the brushless motor propels riders to these speeds in near silence, truly a great way to get around. Should you need to alert anyone of your presence, simply use the integrated bell.
What’s even more impressive about this low-cost budget eScooter is the climb rating of 15 degrees. Riders can now tackle these inclines with ease, thanks to the terrific torque offered by the motor hub. Alongside this, riders can quickly change between 3 riding modes: Cruise control, Normal mode & Sports mode; each with varying levels of speed & power. Riders can easily check the centrally situated display and check their speed, battery life and more; all at a quick glance. Lastly, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will impact overall performance.

Charges in just 3.5 hours, a rapid charging time, especially when considering the price. Typically, many budget electric scooters take approx. 6-12+ hours of charging time; even those offering similar ranges. Please note, we were unable to find evidence of any charge time differences between the E22 vs E22E.

Whilst the exact type of cells used are unspecified, it’s more than likely to be Lithium-ion. However, we still recommend double checking with the supplier should you wish to confirm this. The average Lithium-ion battery claims a lifespan of 500-1000 charge cycles.
Therefore, total daily usage impacts the lifespan drastically. For example, commuters may have to charge 1-2 times a day, whereas a casual enthusiast may charge once a week. However, for some perspective, even if you were to charge this once every day, it would still take 2-3+ years to reach this point.

As we all know, Segway became known through innovative design choices; pioneering many concepts and industry standards. As such, this electric scooter is no different. Much like many of their models, the display is conveniently situated in the centre of the handlebars.
This in turn allows riders to quickly and easily monitor their speed, mileage, battery life & more. The handlebars are ergonomic, grippy & comfortable, with a spacious deck to stand on. Riders can also utilise cruise control to give their wrist a rest on long journeys.
9″ dual density tires soak up harsh hits with some decent shock absorption. These tires also boast a patented anti-skid & tubeless/puncture-proof design. As expected, the Segway Ninebot E22 features a fully folding frame and retains a light weight; making it easy to transport, pack and store. Whilst weighing just 28 lbs, this budget eScooter supports weights of up to 220 lbs (100 kg), approx 7.8 times its own weight.
Much like most of their electric scooters, Segway have kept the design consistent, with a simple yet sleek & low profile colour scheme. Front & rear electric disc brakes increase control and safety given to riders; discussed more below, in our roadside safety section.
Segway Ninebot E22 vs E22e
Whilst the Segway Ninebot E22 seems to offer satisfactory performance, a so-called upgraded version is also available. This upgrade comes in the form of the Ninebot E22e, however both of these models are remarkably similar. From what we’ve seen, the only difference regarding Ninebot E22 vs E22e is regenerative braking; featured on the E22e, kinetic energy generated from braking is converted back into battery power.
Furthermore, the Segway Ninebot E22e has a slightly improved model, with another reflective strip and rear brake light added. However, other than this, their speed, weight, range, motor size and more are the exact same. Therefore, we conclude that whilst costing a little more, a selection of design choices & regenerative braking are all that sets these models apart. Whether this difference is worth the money remains up to you!

As we found no mention of any auto-locking once out of battery, we believe yes; riders should have no problem lending a leg once the battery dies!

Build quality and ease of use
Segway were one of, if not the first on the scene for hoverboards and other Personal Electric Vehicles alternatives; paving the way for many models we see today. As a long established & world-renowned brand, its no surprise that Segway consistently deliver quality rides at fair prices. Solidly built, packed full of features and a high emphasis on design & quality control; many of which we weren’t expecting for such a low-cost, budget electric scooter.
For starters, the patented dual density tires offer a great deal of benefits, from shock absorption to anti-skid and puncture proof properties. The 3 riding modes are also a great addition, allowing riders to match their style or take it easy with cruise control. Riders can even purchase an additional external battery to extend their range, speed and more.
The previously mentioned Smart Battery Management System also offers a great deal of functionality and is a feature not often seen on cost-effective eScooters of this price range. Again, to attest to build quality, the Segway Ninebot E22 supports over 7 times its own weight of 28 lbs, very impressive indeed. On the topic of ease of use, this eScooter doesn’t get much easier.
Simply step on it and go, everything from the display & brakes to lights are conveniently situated for easy access. The entire design of this epic budget eScooter showcase the care and time Segway have invested into efficiency, safety and quality control. Lastly, mobile app support & riding mode selection allow riders to amplify their riding experience; truly a remarkable ride for the price.

Whilst boasting 9″ pneumatic tires and tackles 15 degree inclines, the Segway Ninebot E22 Kickscooter certainly suits roadside use primarily; not suitable for off-road and tricky terrains. Of course, you probably can still ride on said terrains, albeit with greatly reduced performance and control.
As such, Segway recommend riders stick to smooth surfaces such as roadsides, pavements, etc; clearly designed for conventional use on the road. Furthermore, thanks to the effective dual braking system, riders can make sharp, sudden stops quickly & easily.
This budget beast of an eScooter boasts a stopping distance as low as 4 metres; especially important when riding on the road with other traffic. Alongside this, the 9″ dual density tires also offer a patented anti-skid/puncture-proof design to help you keep control and carry on moving.
Alert clueless pedestrians and other traffic on the road with the integrated bell. Riders can also easily utilise the front & rear LED lights, maintaining visibility at night whilst also helping you stay seen. However, we still insist that riders wear adequate safety clothing, such as a high-visibility jacket, helmet, gloves, etc. when riding at night.
