Pure Air Review 2020

Pure Air eScooter Review & Overview

Welcome to our Pure Air eScooter review for 2023. As with all our reviews, we aim to cover all the key specs, stats and features that this exciting e-scooter has to offer. Starting off, riders have the choice between the standard model and upgraded ‘Pro’ variant; bringing with it a bigger battery, motor & an extended range. However, the standard Pure Air pulls its weight, with both models offering similar specs & performance, outside of the aforementioned differences.

Both boast a waterproof rating of IP65, rated as ‘dust tight’ and protected against projected water blasts. Seeing as many competitors only claim IP55 or lower, we were impressed with the above average rating. Furthermore, riders receive a 1 year warranty on all official purchases, keeping you safe from any potential future faults. Of course, this e-scooter is also fully folding, allowing riders to easily fold, store & transport their ride; further making it a viable electric scooter for commuters. With a few features laid down, let’s begin our in-depth 2023 Pure Air review.

Speed, Power & Distance

Speed, Power & Distance

Starting off with speed, both Pure Air models offer a moderate max. speed of approx. 15.5 mp/h (25 km/h). Whilst nothing too crazy, this is still a pretty superb speed when considering the price tag, even for the Pro. The standard model offers a decent 250W motor, however the Pure Air Pro is powered by a beefier, 350W motor. Whilst they both share the same speed, the Pro offers better torque when tackling inclines; alongside also claiming slightly faster acceleration.

Although, the key differences between the Pure Air & the Pro lie in their range, with the standard model offering a reasonable 18.6 miles (30 km). Thanks to its bigger battery, the upgraded Pro offers an additional 6 km, bringing its range to approx. 23.4 miles (36 km).

However, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will impact overall performance. This range data is based on standard testing regulations, with 75 kg rider on a stable surface. Feel free to continue reading our Pure Air review for more information about battery life & charging.

Recommended age/weight?

Whilst weighing 16.5 kg (36 lbs), both models support weights of up to 120 kg; 7.2 times its own weight. Whilst no recommended weight is stated, both models were tested with a rider weighing 75 kg. Those weighing less might find that they can squeeze a few extra miles, so maybe it’s finally time to start that diet. In terms of age, Pure Electric state that this scooter is suitable for riders over the age of 16+.

What is the range/distance?

  • Standard model:
    Approx. 18.6 miles (30 km)
  • Upgraded ‘Pro’ model:

Battery Life & Charging

Battery Life & Charging

Whilst we know that the Pure Pro features a bigger battery, the manufacturers don’t mention any specifications regarding battery size or type. Typically, many modern electric scooters feature lithium-ion batteries; affording them faster charge times, extended range and longer life. Whilst we cannot confirm this, we speculate that these models may utilise this technology.

However, we recommend contacting the manufacturer to confirm this. In terms of charge time, both models share a fairly speedy 5.5 hours from empty. We were relatively impressed with this time, seeing as how many similarly priced competitors often require around 7-10 hours of charging.

How long does it take to charge?

Both models fully charge in 5.5 hours.

Battery protection & safety

While unspecified, modern e-scooters must adhere to strict quality control & fire/electrical safety standards before entering the market. As such, we expect that these models have followed suit; especially considering their above average IP65 waterproof rating. We again recommend contacting the manufacturer to confirm this.

How long will the battery last for?

Unspecified. If our assumption is correct and these models utilise lithium-ion cells, riders should expect between 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. For perspective, this would take 2-3+ years of daily charging to reach.

Design & Ergonomics

Design and Ergonomics

Whilst a brilliant budget electric scooter, the Pure Air claims no compromise in design. Both models maintain a sleek & smooth design, with no exposed electrical cabling or wires. Alongside this, there are both manual handlebar drum brakes & rear electronic anti-lock braking, ensuring riders can stop on a dime.

Further coupled with 10 inch, puncture resistant & anti-skid tires results in much greater control for the rider during sudden stops. Each tire is filled with puncture protection fluid, keeping you safe from any sharp roadside objects. Both models also feature conveniently located displays, allowing riders to check their speed & battery life at a mere glance.

Air Pure Pro upgraded display

Whilst the Pure Air’s display is situated dead centre, the Pro features an upgraded backlit display near the left handle. We assume this is to avoid riders potentially having to lean forward and look down to check their speed or distance. Ergonomically speaking, both models offer a comfortable ride and ample room to stand, with the Pure Air Pro offering a slightly larger deck. Both feature an integrated kickstand, making short stops and parking exceedingly easy.

Folding these scooters remain fast and straightforward, with riders able to fold it up in seconds and catch a train or bus without issue. Lastly, the front & rear lighting are a welcome addition, ensuring riders can both see and stay seen when riding; more of which we discuss in our safety & roadside usability section below. Unspecified frame material. Rubber tires, LED lighting, metal bell.

Suitable for use as a regular scooter?

Yes, provided you aren’t pressing down on the brakes.

Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?

Soon – Pure Electric state that there is a mobile app coming soon, alongside giving buyers the choice for a Bluetooth edition of the Pro. As such, we believe that the Pro model will certainly feature mobile app support in the future.

Build quality and ease of use

Bringing our 2023 Pure Air review into our build quality & ease of use section. Starting out with build quality, we were pleasantly surprised with how robust this budget electric scooter really is. For starters, both models support weights of up to 120 kg (265 lbs) whilst weighing just 16.5 kg (36 lbs); over 7.2 times its own weight.

Alongside this, Pure Electric also offer 1 year warranty on all official purchases, attesting to their confidence in quality control. This also gives riders extra peace of mind, knowing that they’re covered should any faults arise in the foreseeable future.

Both models also claim an above average IP65 waterproof rating, resulting in a dust-tight scooter capable of resisting sustained projected blasts of water. The 10-inch anti-skid tires were also filled with puncture protection fluid, protecting both ride & rider from any rogue roadside objects.

In terms of ease of use, both models offered a simple & straightforward experience, operating just like you’d expect any other scooter to. The deck offered enough foot room to stand and manoeuvre comfortably, with both brakes & display conveniently & comfortably situated.

Safety & Usability on the road

Safety and usability on the road

Moving our 2023 Pure Air review onto one of our most important sections; safety & usability on the road. The previously mentioned LED front & rear lighting is a great start, ensuring riders stay seen & safe, no matter the hour. Alongside this, both models further feature side reflectors, resulting in 360° lighting and enhanced visibility. However, we still recommend riders wear adequate safety gear when riding on darker days; such as a high visibility jacket, helmet, gloves, etc. The anti-skid, puncture resistant tires are a welcome addition, giving riders much more stability and control when making sudden stops or running over sharp objects.

An integrated bell allows riders to alert pedestrians to your presence, or to get the attention of traffic. Whilst not explicitly for roadside use only, the lack of off-road functionality indicates that this is the case. Especially when you consider the lack of suspension, resulting in riders battling bumps by themselves. All in all, we believe both models suitable for roadside use, provided you stick to smooth surfaces and don’t try any crazy tricks. We recommend checking your local laws & regulations to ensure that your region allows for eScooters on road or pavements.

Pure Air eScooter Side

Is the Pure Air waterproof?

Yes, the Pure Air & Pro both claim an above average IP65 waterproof rating; resulting in a dust-tight frame capable of withstanding pressurised water blasts. Learn more about waterproof ratings here.

Pure Air vs Pro – which is better?

Whilst strikingly similar in both design and specs, there are a few key differences between the two models. In terms of design, the Pro has a slightly larger deck vs Pure Air, affording more foot room and space. Alongside this and an upgraded backlit display situated near the left handle, the Pro also claims a bigger battery, motor and extended range of 36 km. Of course, this all comes at an increased cost, however both models still remain remarkably priced. Whatever model you decide is your choice, whatever suits your needs or budget is always best.
