Overview
Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 Overview
Welcome to our Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 review for 2024; we aim to cover most of the specs, stats and features included with this epic eScooter. An upgrade from their M365 Pro, Xiaomi have clearly spared no expense. Whilst offering a similar top speed to its predecessor, the Pro 2 takes advantage of a bigger battery, offering an increased range and regenerative braking. Catching their first big break in 2018, after scooter hire company ‘Bird’ bought hundreds for streets across Europe.
Typically intending to arrive much earlier, the global COVID-19 pandemic led to a fair delay for shipping this latest upgraded model worldwide. However, the day has finally come, with this excellent new eScooter finally hitting the global stage. Feel free to continue reading our 2024 Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 review for the confirmed specifications; alongside all the fantastic features contained within.
Speed, Power & Distance
Speed, Power & Distance
In comparison to its predecessor, this upgraded model offers the same top speed of 15.5 mp/h (25 km/h). However, a bigger & better battery results in an extended range of 28 miles (45 km), all powered by (you guessed it); an upgraded 300w motor with a 600w maximum output, helping propel this superb scooter to its top speed. Furthermore, riders can also choose from 3 riding modes, depending on how they feel.
Take your pick from pedestrian, standard and sports mode, each offering varying levels of power. What’s more, the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 also tackles inclines of up to 20 degrees, thanks to its upgraded motor. Alongside this, riders can also utilise the cruise control system, giving your wrist a rest, whilst you lean back and relax. Although, please note that variables such as rider weight, incline, terrain, etc. will affect overall performance.
How fast does it go?
15.5 mp/h (25 km/h).
Recommended age/weight?
Whilst possible for those around 5 ft to ride, we believe those between the heights of 5″4 – 6″4 will have the most comfortable ride; especially as the handlebars aren’t adjustable. In terms of weight, this model supports up to 100 kg (220 lbs), whilst weighing just 14.2 kg itself. That’s just over 7 times its own weight!
What is the range/distance?
28 miles (45 km) – A clear improvement over its predecessor.
Battery Life & Charging
Battery Life & Charging
Whilst the battery is definitely bigger, little information is available regarding the specifications of it. We can clearly see that the bigger base is to house this upgraded battery, with some listings attempting to play it off as an “extra comfort” feature.
According to suppliers, this upgraded battery results in a faster charging time of 8 hours, which didn’t seem right. However, worth noting is the regenerative braking. This system converts kinetic brake energy into power directed to the battery, helping you squeeze out that extra mile.
During our original Mi 365 review, we ended up with a charge time of 5 – 5.5 hours; much faster than what Xiaomi claim for the Pro 2. Furthermore, a longer lifespan is promised regarding the battery, with higher quality lithium-ion cells used in production. All in all, whilst little information is available and the charge time remains questionable, we clearly see an extended range, courtesy of this bigger battery.
How long does it take to charge?
Approx. 8 hours – Slower than it’s predecessor.
Battery protection & safety
The lithium-ion battery remains integrated within the frame, protecting against harsh hits and knocks; alongside boasting an IP54 rating. This means that electrical components are protected from moderate water pressure and dust ingress. Lastly, many manufacturers must comply with UL certification against fire & electrical safety hazards. As such, we wouldn’t find it any surprise if Xiaomi follow suit.
How long will the battery last for?
Riders should anticipate an average of 500-1000+ charge cycles from their lithium-ion battery, before any issues arise. As Xiaomi have sourced premium quality lithium-ion cells, we believe riders should expect the latter figure. For some perspective, even if you charged & used this folding eScooter on a daily basis, it would still take 2-3 years to reach this point.
Design & Ergonomics
Design and Ergonomics
Moving on to the next section of our 2024 Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 review; design and ergonomics. For starters, the design remains relatively the same, save for a slightly thicker base to house the bigger battery. Despite this bigger battery, this model still retains fairly light weight of just 14.2 kg (31 lbs); not one of the lightest electric scooters available compared some higher-end competitors, but still a great effort.
Even more impressively, this solid scooter supports weights of up to 100 kg (220 lbs), just over 7 times its own weight. Xiaomi have clearly retained the sleek ‘minimalist’ design we saw before. The centrally situated display is clearly visible, allowing riders to check their battery level, speed and more; all at a mere glance.
Highly reflective strips sport the front, rear and sides of the scooter, helping riders stay seen and safe; alongside their bright LED headlights & rear brake lights. The integrated bell allows riders to alert clueless pedestrians to their presence, as they overtake them in this brilliantly balanced eScooter.
Lastly, this eScooter also boasts a fully folding frame, allowing riders to easily fold, transport and store their ride in seconds. Feel free to continue reading our 2024 Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 review for more information on build quality & ease of use.
What material is it made from?
Aerospace-grade aluminium alloy, regenerative (KERS) braking, pneumatic rubber tires, LED display.
Suitable for use as a regular scooter?
Yes, expect to start pushing or lend a leg once the battery runs out!
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Yes – Riders can use the app to tweak settings, check status/diagnose any issues, set cruise control speed and much more. In fact to start off, this model requires smartphone activation via the mobile app, which remains available on both iOS and Android.
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our 2024 Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 review to build quality & ease of use, both of which it certainly excels at. For starters, aerospace grade aluminium alloy is used throughout the manufacturing process & for the frame; making this model light yet remarkably robust.
Not only this, the frame is also fully folding; allowing riders to easily pack and store their ride, wherever they go. As such, this makes the Mi Pro 2 an ideal electric scooter for commuters. We were amazed at how Xiaomi have managed to maintain such a high build quality, whilst still offering a cost-effective scooter.
Xiaomi have decided to upgrade the wheels on this model, now featuring 8.5 inch anti-skid pneumatic tires. Whilst obviously offering increased control, these new tires are also far easier to switch out and replace, as opposed to its predecessor.
Thanks to those upgraded tires, this model also boasts both off and on-road functionality, of which we discuss in the section below. However akin to its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 offers a well-balanced ride, easy to control and highly manoeuvrable.
One thing we were slightly disappointed with was the lack of adjustment for the handlebars, due to the folding system. All things considered, we believe this ride extremely easy to use and brilliantly built. In fact, Xiaomi place such confidence in their quality control, they even offer 2 years warranty on all official purchases. This gives riders that extra peace of mind, knowing that should their ride become faulty, they can easily get it replaced for free.
Safety & Usability on the road
Safety and usability on the road
Switching gear to arguably the most important section of our 2024 Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 review; safety and usability on the road. For starters, we all know how important it is to stay safe when riding on the road. When a single mistake could prove fatal, its imperative that you stay seen and safe at all times on the road.
Thankfully, this model features super bright LED head & brake lights, maintaining your vision and ensuring you remain visible to traffic. Alongside this, reflectors remain on the side, rear and front of the deck, keeping you both eye-catching and visible.
Brilliant brakes
Furthermore, the integrated bell allows riders to alert cars and clueless pedestrians to their presence, before they have to slam onto the brakes. Speaking of braking power, this model boasts dual front & rear disc brakes, resulting in sharp, sudden stops at will.
On another note, the regenerative braking is another awesome feature that converts kinetic braking energy into power for the battery; giving riders that extra mile. Allowing yourself the capacity to make these sudden stops is especially important on the road, as everything can change in a split second.
Slacking a little on suspension
However, one thing worth noting is the lack of front & rear suspension, with the Mi Pro 2 instead relying on pneumatic tires. This can result in a bumpy ride, should you pick the wrong path. Although thanks to said 8.5 inch pneumatic tires, the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 also boasts both on & off-road functionality, soaking up bumps and offering greater grip on all terrains. With all these features, we believe riding roadside is perfectly possible. Lastly, we recommend always wearing adequate safety gear when riding on public roads or at night; such as gloves, helmet, a high visibility jacket, etc.
Is the Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 waterproof?
Yes – The Xiaomi Mi Pro 2 boasts a waterproof rating of IP54; protecting it against moderate water pressure and dust ingress. Learn more about IP ratings here.
