Enertion Raptor 2 Electric Skateboard Overview

Today we are looking at fairly new Australian company Enertion Boards that started their business in 2016. They have successfully finished their Kickstarter campaign by raising AU$ 115,012 (Starting goal was AU$50,000) and a year later started shipping Raptor electric skateboard that claimed it should be the most powerful direct drive electric skateboard.

We will be looking at their Raptor 2 Electric Skateboard that is one of the fastest electric skateboards currently on the market with a big range as an added bonus. If you are a speed-craving fanatic and prioritize speed and power over comfort, Raptor 2 might just be the right alternative transportation for you.

There are some contradictory things we have to say about this fast e-skateboard as well, so make sure to read the whole review for our honest opinion about this powerful electric monster.

Update as of 03/03/2021: This model has since been discontinued and no longer available for purchase. Please browse the rest of our electric skateboard reviews for just-as-awesome alternative!

Enertion Raptor 2 specs

Speed, Power & Distance

This part is the strongest of all features of Raptor 2 e-board. If we would be ranking electric skateboards just in speed, power, and distance category Enertion Raptor 2 electric skateboard would be the fastest e-skateboard on our list.

Not only that it can go very fast for quite a long distance, but it also has a lot of power that allows climbing very steep hills. Check out the video below where Raptor electric skateboard has no trouble climbing 30% gradient hill.

The speed and power come from insanely powerful direct drive hub motors.

How fast does it go?

The Enertion Raptor 2 electric skateboard can get you up to a whopping maximum speed of 49 km/h (30 m/h)! So far this electric skateboard has the highest speed out of all e-skateboards we have reviewed in 2023 and should be a great treat for speed fanatics and people who want to compete in electric skateboard racing!

Does it have more than one speed setting?

Yes the board has two speed modes Slow and Fast. There is no official information how fast you can go with Slow mode but obviously it won’t go to maximum speed and will have less power for acceleration and hill climb. From what we have seen Slow mode is actually not that slow compared to other electric skateboards but still good to practice before going for maximum speed.

What age/weight is it suitable for?

No age limit mentioned by the company, except that you need to be 18 years old to buy the Raptor 2 through their website. Of course, it is common sense that this powerful electric longboard is not suitable for children unless under adult supervision.

Raptor 2 can handle 100 kg (220 lbs) rider. While most electric skateboards performance drops off noticeably when having a rider close to max weight, in our opinion Raptor skateboard holds speed and acceleration very well because of its powerful motors.

What is the range/distance?

In perfect conditions it should get you up to 40 km (25 miles). Of course going on max speed and hills will result in lower distance per charge.

Can it be used offroad?

Not really, this e-board is designed to shred flat pavements and streets. Small street wheels will make it very hard to ride on any uneven or rocky terrain.

Battery Life & Charging

How long does it take to charge?

The big 432Wh 40 cell Lithium-Ion battery will charge in just 2 hours 0-100% such a fast charge is possible because they have a fast charger as a standard.

Battery protection & safety

Not much information from Enertion about battery protection only that it has a built-in circuit to balance and protect the cells.

How long will the battery last for?

Most of Lithium-Ion batteries, last around 1000 charge cycles, of course, it depends on many variables, like maintenance, charging habits and if the battery has good protection to increase life-span. Having a big battery in our opinion is better since you will be able to clock in longer mileage before reaching 1000 charge cycles compared to small batteries.

Design and Ergonomics

From Enertion youtube channel we could see the company spent a lot of time designing and manufacturing the Raptor 2 skateboard in China, but we are a little disappointed with some design decisions and quality control.

From a far the board in general looks quite futuristic and nice. The black color will be appropriate for all genders and ages. Yet, when you look at the skateboard from closer you see these ugly bolts and screws sticking out on the sides of the board. Having spent a lot of money on development and design we think there should be no reason to have these bolts sticking out and catching your eye in a negative way.

Additionally, there are two handles on the sides for you to carry this skateboard. Yes Raptor 2 is very heavy at 11.4 kg (25 lbs) and it is easier to carry it with the handles, but they do make the board look awkward and are actually not balanced to have same weight on both sides when you pick it up.

Also, rubber charge port cap is on the bottom of the battery making it very easy to tear off if you scrape the bottom of the battery when riding leaving the port open for dirt and dust to get in.

On a good note the Raptor 2 board is long and wide measuring 97.3 cm (38.3 inches) in length and 27.4 cm (10.7 inches) in width. This allows for a wide leg positioning for a more stable stand while going fast. It also has a kicktail, but we don’t believe it’s very useful since the board is so heavy.

What material is it made from?

The deck of the board is made from maple composite and carbon fiber with alloy handles.

Remote

Enertion Raptor 2 remote is called Nano-X. The controller itself is quite small and has no LCD screen to check speed, mileage, or battery juice left.

Acceleration and braking are quite responsive, you just need to get used to powerful acceleration on fast mode (R-spec).

Does it connect to your smartphone via app or bluetooth?

No smartphone application from Enertion. So since there is no LCD screen on the remote and no smartphone app, unless you use a third party software for checking speed, you have no way of seeing your current speed.

Unrelated to speed, Enertion has FOCBOX software tool (Windows only) that allows you to customise your Raptor 2 performance. You will be able to do:

  • Performance tuning
  • Fault checking
  • Motor detection & setup
  • Throttle curve control
  • Real-time data analysis

Build quality and ease of use

The quality of the wheels, trucks, deck, and the build itself seems to be very solid. Raptor 2 rides quite silently with no clattering or chattering. However, in our opinion, the quality control is just not up-to-par. The grip tape that goes through whole deck top is very nice but is just cut unevenly in some places.

Using the board is easy but needs some practice if you are a beginner. Remember this e-board is very powerful and very fast. Use slow mode at first to tame this little electric mustang.

Safety and usability on the road

We think you definitely need additional safety gear on this electric skateboard like a helmet and safety pads. Additionally, we would advise tightening your trucks to reduce speed wobbles that occur when going really fast with a skateboard and Raptor 2 does go fast. Also, if you plan on traveling at night you will need to attach your own lighting since Raptor 2 skateboard has no lights or reflective stickers.

Raptor 2 is designed for fast travel and racing, wide trucks and long deck allows a wide stance for stable ride at high speeds.

For us, Raptor 2 is not really suitable for everyday commute because it is very heavy and not really maneuverable. We think it is a great second board when you want to go out for a fast ride or compete in racing competitions.

Is Enertion Raptor 2 skateboard waterproof?

Yes, Raptor 2 has an IP65 waterproof rating. The skateboard battery and electronics are protected from total dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction. In normal language that would mean the board is not afraid to get wet from rain or puddle splashes as long it is not soaked in water.

Maneuverability

Not very maneuverable considering the length of the deck and the hefty size of the board. It does have a kicktail but in our honest opinion it is useless when the board weighs so much and after all its original purpose is to go fast on straight streets instead of making tight turns or doing tricks.

Restrictions and availability

The good thing is that Raptor 2 can be shipped to almost everywhere (exceptions: Hawaii, Alaska, Russia, Israel, remote Norway). The bad thing is that Enertion shipping is veeeeery slow. On their website, it says it will ship in 6-8 weeks but we have seen people telling they have waited almost a year to get their hands on Raptor 2. We think this is most likely because they ship Raptor 2 directly from China and they are manufacturing in small quantities. So be aware that if you really like the Raptor 2 you might have to wait for it for quite a while.

As always where ever you plan on riding this fast skateboard make sure you are aware of local laws. Some countries do not allow electric transportation on the streets. Be responsible and research the legislation to avoid any fines.
