Welcome to our 2023 Gocycle GX review and overview. In this section, we discuss a variety of specs, stats and features included with this magnificent, fast folding ebike. In fact, Gocycle claim that the frame is designed to fold up in less than 10 seconds. For riders still delaying for the perfect design, you’ve found it.
For starters, the overall design of the GX is seriously sleek, with no exposed wiring or electrical components. This gives the GX an incredibly smooth aesthetic whilst keeping the interior electrical components that little bit safer. Alongside this, the Gocycle GX also comes in a choice of 3 different colours; blue, matte black & white/gloss.
The low down, walk-through frame is perfect for elderly riders and easy mount/dismounting. Find out more about the frame and other aspects of the design under our design and ergonomics section. Moving on, with the optional fast charger, the Gocycle GX’s 4 hour charge time make it one of the fastest charging electric bikes we’ve reviewed.
Furthermore, its also one of the lightest eBikes, weighing just 17.8 kg (39.2 lbs) whilst supporting weights of 100 kg (220 lbs); over 5.5 times its own weight. This extreme durability and light weight is in thanks to the hydroformed magnesium alloy frame; offering reliable performance at no extra weight.
Remarkably reliable
On the topic of performance, the Gocycle GX certainly meets the mark, offering a throttle-only top speed of 20 mp/h (25 km/h) and range of up to 40 miles (65 km). Furthermore, the multiple riding modes allow riders to pick the perfect style for their needs; from city, eco, on-demand, custom mode and more.

Moving on to the speed, power and distance section of our Gocycle GX review for 2023. Powered by a hidden 300 Wh motor and propelled by a 500W front hub motor, allowing the GX to offer a throttle-only top speed of up to 20 mp/h (25 km/h); with riders able to go faster should they pedal hard enough.
We believe speed more than ample for urban environments such as towns and cities. Furthermore, the GX also offers a range of up to 40 miles (65 km), which we believe more than enough for the average commuter or enthusiast. As such, the GX is a perfectly suited commuting eBike, offering a decent range and fast charging (discussed below).
Alongside this, rider modes allow you to choose the perfect mode to suit your mood; with custom modes available for programming via the Gocycle app. These custom modes are a really useful and unique feature that we don’t see very often. Conserve power on Eco mode, ride sensibly on City mode, have a blast with on-demand mode or set your own limits.
As previously mentioned, riders willing to put in some pedal power are rewarded with extended battery life and range. This is a great incentive for riders to put an effort in and stay help stay fit. However, please note that variables such as rider weight, incline, terrain, weather, etc. will affect overall performance.
How fast does the Gocycle GX go?
This fast folding eBike boasts a throttle-only top speed of 29 mp/h (25 km/h).
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Whilst not the heaviest load bearing eBike we’ve reviewed, the Gocycle GX still supports weights of up to 100 kg (220 lbs). Furthermore, we were unable to find an official statement from Gocycle regarding the recommended age range. However, due to the low frame, height adjustable seat and high weight limit, we believe the GX to best suit ages over 13.
What is the range/distance?
The Gocycle GX offers a throttle-only range of approx. 40 miles (65 km). Alongside this, riders can also choose from multiple riding modes, such as City, Eco, On-Demand and even custom modes; programmable through the Gocycle app. Riders willing to lend a leg will also benefit from increased range and battery life, however please note variable such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will affect overall performance.

Next up on our Gocycle GX review for 2023, battery life & charging. As the case with every electric bike, a quality battery is paramount to performance. The problems many eBikes face today are battery life, range offered, charge time, battery protection and more.
However, these pose no problems for the GX, which offers a remarkable 40 mile range, thanks to the removable 13.7 Ah, 22V 300 Wh Lithium-ion battery; smoothly situated within the folding frame to maintain that sleek, premium aesthetic.
As previously mentioned, the Gocycle GX takes approx. 7 hours to charge from empty. Although riders also have the option to purchase an additional fast charger; capable of fully charging the GX in just 4 hours. The inclusion of this fast charger makes the Gocycle GX one of the fastest charging electric bikes we’ve reviewed today.
Many similarly performing competitors usually require charge times in excess of 8-12 hours, whilst often offering the same range and top speed. As such, this fast charging firmly secures the GX as an ideal commuting eBike; capable of riding up to 40 miles to work and fully charging before your shift is even halfway done.
Alongside this, the fully removable battery allows riders to interchange empty batteries with fully charged spares. In a sense, this allows you to double, triple or even quadruple your battery life, range and ride time. As a premium quality Lithium-ion battery, the battery life is rated for approx. 500-1000+ charge cycles. How long does it take to charge?
7 hours with default charger, however the optional fast charger allows for a rapid charge time of just 4 hours; making the Gocycle GX one of the fastest charging electric bikes we’ve reviewed. This is especially impressive when you consider the ample range also offered.
Battery protection & safety
Whilst we found no official statement regarding UL and IP ratings, GoCycle have taken great care with the physical protection of the battery, fitting it seamlessly within the chassis. This suitably protects it from dust ingress, moderate water splashes and other elements. However, we still don’t know the official waterproof rating of the GX. As such, we recommend contacting GoCycle to confirm this; alongside avoiding riding in heavy rain and submerging your eBike.
Furthermore, the GX’s predecessor, the Gocycle GS features their own proprietary Battery Management System, offering protection against overheating, overvoltage, etc. Whilst not directly mentioned on the GX, we believe it unlikely that Gocycle would include this on the cheaper GS but not the revamped GX. How long will the battery last for?
As a premium quality Lithium-ion battery, riders should expect an average of 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. For perspective, even if you were charging your GX every day, it would still take approx. 2-3+ years of continuous use to reach this stage.
Design & Ergonomics

The design of the Gocycle GX certainly screams innovation, with all wiring and electrical components carefully integrated within the frame; giving the GX an incredibly polished aesthetic. Alongside this, the battery is seamlessly fitted into the chassis, offering increased protection from the elements and theft. We really feel like Gocycle have producted the iPhone of electric bikes; sleek and smooth yet fun and functional.
Moving on, the low down, walk-through frame makes an ideal addition for elderly riders and those with mobility issues. These walk-through frames have become increasingly common amongst folding bikes, allowing for extremely easy mounting/dismounting. Alongside this, Gocycle cite the GX as an extremely fast folding ebike; taking just 10 seconds to fold up. This allows for quick and easy assembly, transport or storage throughout your day, which is another key feature for commuters.
Every commuter’s dream
Commuting to work via train? Simply ride to the station and wait for the train. Once it arrives, your new friend quickly folds up in no time and stores compactly in a location of your choosing. Moving on, the seat is entirely height adjustable, accommodating riders of a variety of shapes and sizes. As previously mentioned, the GX also comes in a choice of 3 different colours to choose from; ranging from matte black, white/gloss and blue. The fully removable battery allows riders to swap out on demand, effectively doubling, tripling, etc. their battery life and range. We believe this another great feature, allowing long-distance commuters and riders to always have a plan B.
The display is conveniently located in the centre of the handlebars, showing an LED fuel guage. Riders can also connect a smart device to the GocycleConnect app for a more detailed display. Further featuring a handy kickstand for parking/rest brakes; alongside ergonomic and comfortable hand grips to keep you comfortable on long journeys. All in all, we believe the Gocycle GX a fast folding, fast charging eBike of outstanding quality; the perfect electric bike for commuters and enthusiasts alike.
What material is it made from?
Hydroformed alloy front frame with injection moulded magnesium Cleandrive, aluminium seat post, rubber hand grip and tires.
Can it be used as a regular bike?
Yes – Riders can choose from multiple riding modes, each with varying levels of pedal-assist. Take your pick from Eco, City and On-demand mode, or program your own custom riding mode from the mobile app (more information below). Riders who lend a leg are rewarded with increased range, battery life and ride time.
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Yes – The GX offers full mobile app support, in the form of the GocycleConnect app. Riders are able to use this app with a smart device and have it act as a display; alongside allowing riders to set their own custom ride modes. Lastly, riders also get access to a whole host of custom features for their eBike. GocycleConnect app available for both iOS and Android.
Build quality and ease of use
Moving on to the build quality & ease of use section for our Gocycle GX 2023 review. As you may have gathered, the build quality of this fast folding eBike is exceptional; with high-end materials used and great care taken throughout the production process.
Gocyle have incorporated a lightweight yet highly durable hydroformed magnesium alloy frame. This frame results in the GX weighing just 17.8 kg (39.2 lbs), yet fully capable of supporting weights up to 100 kg (220 lbs); over 5.5 times its own weight.
If this doesn’t attest to the quality of the Gocycle GX, we don’t know what will. Perhaps the super fast folding frame, capable of fully folding in just 10 seconds… Or the front & rear suspension, soaking up otherwise harsh and unforgiving hits with ease and ensuring a smooth ride. Alongside this, the height adjustable seat allows riders to easily suit their shape and size, with the walk-through frame offering effortless mounting/dismounting.
As previously mentioned, riders can program their own custom ride modes, allowing you to perfectly suit your needs. Ergonomic hand grips ensure maximum comfort throughout the ride, alongside greater grip and control. Bringing it back, the sensationally seamless design is an engineering marvel and really sets the GX apart from others.

Safety & Usability on the road
Safety and usability on the road
Moving on to arguably one of the most important sections of our Gocycle GX review; safety and usability on the road. As every rider knows, their safety is of upmost importance when riding on the roads. As such, we’ve assessed the roadside functionality and viability of the GX.
For starters, we were unable to find any integrated lights, with Gocycle encouraging riders to purchase additional aftermarket lighting. As such, we do not believe an out of the box, unmodified GX suitable for night time use. Alongside this, we were unable to find any reflective strips on the sides, which surprised us since it’s quite a common feature.
Due to the issues mentioned above, we recommend purchasing additional front & rear lighting before attempting to ride at night. Alongside this, we also insist that riders wear adequate safety gear; such as a high visibility jacket, helmet, gloves and more. However, worth noting are the remarkably responsive dual front & rear hydraulic disc brakes, allowing riders to make sharp, sudden stops on demand.
Furthermore, the front & rear suspension soak up harsh hits and potholes, helping to ensure a smoother ride. This is especially important on the road, where responsive reactions and stopping power are potentially life saving. Lastly, whilst requiring additional lights for roadside use, we still believe the GX suitable for use on the road, just stick to the bike lane.
Gocycle GX waterproof rating
Whilst the IP rating is unspecified, many competing models offers resistance against moderate splashes of water, light rain and dust ingress. However, we recommend contacting the supplier and confirming this. Learn more about IP ratings here.
Restrictions and availability
As far as we know, the Gocycle GX ships worldwide, with Gocycle offering both US and EU models. However, we recommend double checking your local laws and regulations to ensure your region allows for such alternative travel methods.
