Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Overview

Razor products have been around for a while now. Being the first Hoverboard manufactured in the U.S. to be rated as UL Certified, Razor ensures that all patented Razor Hovertrax products meet the industry’s highest electrical safety standards. A known fact and concern from consumers in the past has been hoverboards in general catching fire or exploding. Of course, we personally can’t guarantee against the common yet unfortunate mishap. However, we do think this is a safer option provided the UL safety standards.

We’ve been excited to release our Razor Hovertrax 2.0 review for a number of reasons. The light, self-balancing Razor Hovertrax 2.0 is built strong with a steel frame and shatter resistant body. The wheels have fender bumper protection and LED lights located on the front of the board. Like many hoverboards on the market now a day’s providing self-balance or riders assist. Hovertrax presents its unique EverBalance technology. This is exclusively structured for Razor, and automatically levels the board and giving you a smooth ride.

Hovertrax 2.0 has a maximum speed of 8mph and runs as long as 1 hour. That being said, this is not the first Razor Hovertrax board and the ones before seem to surpass standards.

Speed and power & Distance

How fast does it go? What is the range/distance?

Hovertrax 2.0 has a motor equipped with silent dual-hub motors, with one hub situated in each wheel that runs at 135 Watt, maxing out at 350 Watt. This gives the board approximately one hour of running time at a top speed of 8 mph. This is below the average top speed and battery life based on our other hoverboard reviews. This is a bit disappointing, but the Hovertrax 2.0 does have swappable batteries which are sold separately.

What age/weight is it suitable for?

The Hovertrax 2.0 states its need a minimum weight of 40 lbs and maximizing at 220 lbs. This makes it suitable for ages 8 years plus, at your own discretion. The self-balancing feature allows for you and the board to stay up right as soon as you step on or off, a handy learning tool. Hit hills and slopes with an incline or decline up to 15 degrees.

Can it be used offroad?

The bigger the tires the better off road capability it will have, putting that into factor Razor 2.0 not having big bulky tires leaves us to recommend a different board if you’re really looking for off-roading fun. We reccomend the Halo Go 2 as one of the best offroad hoverboards of 2020.

Battery life

Hovertrax 2.0 Controls

How long does it take to charge? How long will the battery last for?

The 36V lithium-ion battery can be expected to last up to 1 hour. This is a bit shorter than other boards we’ve reviewed. It should take 1-2 hours for a full charge. The battery life will be largely dependent on different variations such as your weight and speed.

The Hovertrax 2.0 comes with a manual and a charger, but if your battery dies and you’re still wanting to ride, you can purchase an extra battery. This is one of this board’s unique features, the quick-release setting allows you to remove and swap the battery pack within a few seconds! You can still charge it the traditional way but this provides you a backup option if you’re still wanting to be on the go.

Battery protection & safety

Razor Hovertrax 2.0 is certified under the UL2272. This certification is the safety certificate specifically aimed for hoverboards and self-balancing scooters.

This suggests it has undergone electrical and fire-safety testing and certification. We consider this to be one of the biggest benefits of owning this particular product. This UL standard applies to its electrical drive train, battery, and charging system.

Design and Ergonomics

What material is it made from?

This product is built with a steel, shatter-resistant casing to help prevent outer damage and scratches. The rubber tires have aluminum hubs protruding from the wheels a bit, hopefully protecting the wheels from damage. The fender bender is rubber as well protecting it in the case that your board does go flying. There is a 90 day warranty is included!

What colors does the Hovertrax 2.0 come in?

The Hovertrax 2.0 comes in 7 different colors. Black, white, blue, move, purple and yellow. See the colors below:

Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?

The Razor Hovertrax 2.0, unfortunately, does not have Bluetooth speakers or a smartphone app. Given the price, we’d really expect this feature, which does reduce the overall score of this Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Review.

Does it have lights?

There are bright strips of LED headlights on the front of the board. These lights turn off in accordance with which footpad is being controlled. This hoverboard also has a battery power indicator on the center of the deck.

Build quality and ease of use

Is it easy to ride?

Want to spin 360 degrees? No problem. Just shift your weight and you’ll start moving in a circular motion. Shift your weight more and you’ll move faster. Shift it back to a neutral position and you’ll slow down. It’s that simple. Even hoverboard newbie’s should have no trouble learning to ride this board.

There are 2 modes: training and normal. The design allows you to smoothly ride on any slopes and apply brakes when necessary. The engine allows for various speeds and is said to allow proper traction and stability at all times so you can ride comfortably forwards or backwards. It also comes equipped with a non-slip traction mat.

Is the Hovertrax 2.0 waterproof?

Hovertrax has not certified that the 2.0 version is water resistant, so we strongly advise keeping to dry conditions. Again this is a bit of a let down and reduces the overall score of this Razor Hovertrax 2.0 Review.

Our likes & dislikes of the Razor Hovertrax 2.0

What we like:

  • We love the replaceable battery. If you buy an extra battery or so you can swap it out tool free at any time so conveniently keep on cruising; no need to wait the 2-3 hours for it to recharge!
  • We also love the training mode and normal mode. Don’t feel pressured to jump right into it, just take it easy until comfortable.

What we dislike:

  • It claims to have a maximum speed of 8 mph but some reviewers have said it sits more around 6 mph making it a lot slower than the average hoverboard now.
  • A downfall on this board is that it isn’t listed as waterproof or even water resistant. So avoid puddles or rain!
  • Unfortunately, this Razor does not connect to a smartphone app (to see stats etc) or have a built in speaker. Other competitors such as Halo hoverboards provide those features.

Hovertrax Black Friday & Cyber Monday

Those seeking serious savings will be wondering about some Hovertrax Black Friday deals. We believe this will be more than likely, with the Hovertrax 2.0 already selling last Black Friday for an incredibly low price! Furthermore, with the rising competitive nature in the hoverboard industry, a Black Friday sale is also imperative in gaining market share and influence. This should likely motivate a number of companies into pushing out some Black Friday deals and staying relevant. Companies who don’t take advantage of Black Friday and the sales it brings will inevitably be left in the dust. Whilst this board is still an amazing deal, we recommend holding off and waiting for any Hovertrax Black Friday & Cyber Monday deals. Keep checking for the latest updates or discover our list of possible Black Friday hoverboard deals this 2020!
