Overview
Apollo Light eScooter Review & Overview
Welcome to our 2024 Apollo Light eScooter review. Before we begin the bulk of our review, a brief overview covering some of the features mentioned above. For starters, the Apollo Light offers a design perfectly suited towards an electric scooter for commuters; it’s lightweight, cost-effective and offers ample range. It’s clear Apollo place emphasis on quality control, even offering up to 2 years warranty on all official purchases. Riders should have no problem keeping this superb scooter in shape, especially with 7-days a week support offered by their team. Learn more about all of the fantastic features included in detail below; beginning with speed, power and distance.
Speed, Power & Distance
Speed, Power & Distance
Starting off with the ever-exciting speed, power & distance section. To begin, a brushless 350W motor silently propels this scooter to speeds of up to 22 mp/h (35 km/h), with a peak output of 500W. This also helps in tackling inclines of up to 10 degrees, which should prove more than enough for most inner-city journeys. Also, for such a cost-effective eScooter, it offers some awesome acceleration; reaching 0-15 mp/h in 6.2 seconds. Powered by a 48V 10.2aH Li-ion battery (discussed below), the Apollo Light reaches ranges of up to 22 miles (35 km).
Whilst power isn’t a primary concern, we were pleasantly surprised with the great range offered; especially considering highly affordable price. Riders can choose from 3 riding modes, each offering varying levels of speed/power. These 3 gears alternate between top speeds of 15, 25 & 35 km/h, perfect for following speed limits or riding at your own pace. Continue reading our Apollo Light eScooter review to learn about battery life & charging.
How fast does it go?
22 mp/h (35 km/h). Riders can choose from 3 riding modes, each with varying top speeds. However, please note that variables such as rider weight, terrain, incline, etc. will affect overall performance.
Recommended age/weight?
Much like almost all of their models, Apollo Scooters recommend the Light best suits riders between the ages of 18 to 60 years. With a decent level of speed, power & range offered, it’s clear this is a mid-tier eScooter intended for utility over fun. As such, we find this age range as no surprise. In terms of maximum/recommended loads, this model supports weights of up to 220 lbs (100 kg) whilst weighing 64 lbs (29kg); approx. 4.6 times its own weight.
What is the range/distance?
22 miles (35 km).
Battery
Battery Life & Charging
Bringing our 2024 Apollo Light eScooter review onto battery life & charging. One thing that sets these scooters apart from the rest comes in the form of Dynavolt Li-ion cells. For some time, LG remained uncontested suppliers of top quality Li-ion cells. However, Dynavolt are world leading manufacturers of motorcycle batteries & after extensive testing between LG/Dynavolt, the latter surprisingly performed better. So, drawing power from an 48V 10.2aH Li-ion battery, the Apollo Light is able to offer ranges of up to 22 miles. Each battery sourced from Dynavolt expects to perform until approx. 2600 charge cycles; offering up to 6 years of daily usage.
This battery further features a smart power management system; protecting against common faults such as short-circuits, over/under charge, over-voltage, over-current, temperature regulation, etc. Alongside this, the Light also includes regenerative braking, converting kinetic energy from braking into battery power. This should help riders squeeze out that extra few hundred metres or mile. However, with a charge time of just 6 hours, riders shouldn’t find themselves running out of battery any time soon. Furthermore, riders can utilise an optional fast charger, effectively cutting that time to 3 hours. All Apollo batteries also come with 2 years warranty, cited as the longest warranty coverage on any eScooter available.
How long does it take to charge?
Approx. 6 hours from empty, 3 hours with optional fast charger.
Battery protection & safety
This model features a smart power management system; protecting against a host of common battery faults. This includes safeguarding short circuits, over-discharging, temperature regulation, over-current, overcharge and much more. With the battery fully integrated within the frame, the model can sustain some harsh hits without taking damage. This model also claims a waterproof rating of IP54, offering protection from dust ingress and moderate-pressure water blasts; effectively keeping your battery safe from any external elements.
How long will the battery last for?
Most standard Li-ion batteries typically last between 500-1000+ charge cycles before any issues arise. However, these premium quality Li-ion cells were sourced from Dynavolt, leading manufacturers of motorcycle batteries. These batteries underwent testing, surprisingly performing better & longer than LG counterparts. These tests concluded that riders should expect an astounding average of 2600 charge cycles before any issues arise. For perspective, even if you were using & charging your eScooter daily, it would still take ~6 years to reach this point.
Design
Design and Ergonomics
Moving our 2024 Apollo Light review onto design & ergonomics. Following the trends of their many other models, this Apollo Light remains fully folding whilst further featuring a forged aluminium frame. This aids in both maintaining a light weight, whilst also greatly improving durability. The fully folding frame makes packing & transporting your ride compact and easy, further benefitting commuters. Riders can take a few small hits and crashes without any denting or warping of the frame, which proves solid. We were rather surprised with this brilliant build quality, considering its role as a low-cost electric scooter for commuters. A clear & conveniently situated LED display showcases speed, distance, battery and more, alongside allowing riders to change gear modes & other settings.
The Apollo Light further features a variety of quality of life additions too. Give your wrist a rest with cruise control, or stay seen and safe at night with dual front & rear LED lighting. To briefly mention, this lighting is super bright & above average for many models, even higher-spec scooters. To attest to the strength of this design, this model weighs just 37 lbs (17 kg), whilst supporting weights of up to 220 lbs (100 kg); approx. 5.9 times its own weight. Ergonomically speaking, this scooter offers a nice ride; the deck is spacious enough to comfortably move around on, hand grips are comfortable & cruise control removes the strain of long distances. Truly a superb scooter for the price, whether you’re commuting or just a casual rider.
What material is it made from?
Forged aluminium alloy frame, 8.5-inch rubber pneumatic tires, dual spring suspension, Dynavolt Li-ion cells.
Suitable for use as a regular scooter?
Yes – once you run out of battery or turn off the motor, expect to lend a leg!
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
Unfortunately, we were unable to find any Apollo mobile app page, or evidence of Bluetooth support. Typically, Apollo models also come with a ‘Ludicrous’ model, with Bluetooth support & increased speed & power However, we were unable to locate any ‘Ludicrous’ variant of the Light.
Build quality and ease of use
Bringing our 2024 Apollo Light eScooter review onto build quality & ease of use. From what we’ve gathered, this model offers brilliant build quality; utilising aviation-grade aluminium alloy & Li-ion cells from Dynavolt, industry leading suppliers & top manufacturers of motorcycle batteries. In fact, after scrutinous testing, Dynavolt cells perform better than LG, especially over 4+ years of use. The forged aluminium frame helps maintain both a light weight & high durability. All interior electrical components receive decent protection against the elements, claiming an IP54 rating of water resistance.
The rear drum brake requires minimal maintenance, completely cutting out any tuning required by disc brakes. It also results in some remarkable stopping power, which we discuss in greater detail below. Triple spring suspension results in a sensationally smooth ride, much better than any competitors. For such a cost-effective scooter, we were blown away by the build quality. As previously stated, this strong scooter supports approx. 5.9 times its own weight of 17 kg. To further attest to their confidence in their models, Apollo also offer up to 2 years warranty on all official purchases. Discover more about this commuting eScooter below, in our safety & roadside use section.
Safety
Safety and usability on the road
Switching to arguably the most important section in our 2024 Apollo Light eScooter review; safety & usability on the road. Like the rest of their models, the Apollo Light laughs in the face of danger; offering a superior triple spring suspension system & resulting in a remarkably smooth ride. Coupled with grippy 8.5″ air-filled pneumatic tires, this scooter soaks up shocks and otherwise harsh hits like its nothing. The rear drum brake allows riders to make sharp & sudden stops on demand, whilst also requiring minimal maintenance. Braking from top speed (22 mp/h), riders should expect a total stopping distance of approx. 13.8 ft (4.2 m). Thanks to claiming a IP54 waterproof rating, riders need not worry about any exposed electrical components or faults; further coupled with a smart power management system ensures no cable is compromised.
In terms of roadside use, we feel like this model was definitely designed with strictly roads in mind. This is partially due to a lack of off-road functionality, however Apollo themselves state its intended roadside use. Riders can switch between 3 gears, each offering varying levels of speed and power. Perfect for sticking to speed limits or learning the ropes. Feel free to utilise cruise control on longer journeys and give your wrist a rest, another key feature for this commuting eScooter. Alongside this, the Apollo Light also features bright, dual front & rear LED lighting; helping you see & stay seen on darker days. However, we still insist riders wear adequate safety gear when riding on the road or at night, including a high-visibility jacket, gloves, helmet, etc.
Is the Apollo Light waterproof?
Yes – the Apollo Light eScooter claims a waterproof rating of IP54, protecting it against dust ingress & moderate water pressure. Learn more about IP ratings here.
