Gotrax Hoverfly Eco Overview
The Hoverfly Eco is the third hoverboard / self-balancing scooter that we are reviewing from Gotrax. Gotrax design and develop a range of high-quality electric vehicles and have become a trusted brand in the industry.
The Hoverfly ECO is designed as the mid-range hoverboard from Gotrax. According to Gotrax, it’s the number one seller in the USA, and we think it’s with good reason. The Hoverfly ECO is fast, powerful, lightweight, affordable and suitable for almost all ages.

Speed, Power & Distance
How fast does it go?
The Gotrax Hoverfly ECO has a 250W motor, which is comparatively smaller than the Gotrax XL which is 250W. However, despite the smaller motor, its still just as fast as the XL and will reach a maximum speed of 7.4 MPH or 11.9KM, making it joint first as the fastest hoverboard by Gotrax.
What age/weight is it suitable for?
Similarly, again to the XL, the Gotrax Hoverfly ECO can take a max weight of up to 220LB or 99KG and should be suitable for most kids and adults.
What is the range/distance?
With perfect conditions and with a full charge, you can expect to reach 9-10 miles or 14-16 km with ECO hoverboard.
Can it be used offroad?
The Hoverfly ECO is designed to be ridden in urban areas. In our tests, we did cross dirt patches and small grassy areas, but if you’re wanting to go offroad, you should probably go with the Gotrax Hoverfly XL offroad hoverboard which is suitable for all terrain.
Battery life
How long does it take to charge?
This is where the Hoverfly ECO really starts standing out against other hoverboards in the Gotrax line fo products. The Hoverfly ECO charges in just 1.5 hours which is by far the fastest charging hoverboard produced by Gotrax.
Battery protection & safety
Gotrax is a reputable brand, and all hoverboards produced by them, as well as batteries and charging equipment, are compliant with the industry UL 2272 safety standards. Regardless of which hoverboard you end up choosing. Do make sure that they are compliant with these industry standards.
How long will the battery last for?
We weren’t able to find specific supplier information on how many charge cycles the battery in the Gotrax Hoverfly ECO should last for, however, going on similar high-quality lithium-ion batteries, we estimate that the battery should last for around 500 – 1000 charge cycles, which under normal usage would be about 2 – 4 years before needing replacement.
Design and Ergonomics
Does it connect to your smartphone via app or Bluetooth?
There is also a Gotrax Hoverfly App for iOS and Android, however it is currently in BETA, which means there will likely be things which won’t work as expected. There are several reviews of the application crashing, so we hope that Gotrax does fix these issues ASAP.
The Hoverfly app allows users to monitor temperature, battery usage, speed etc. You can also set things like max speed, which is a really useful safety feature if kids or inexperienced riders are going to be using the hoverboard.
Does it have lights?
The Hoverfly ECO comes with front and rear LED’s which light the ground beneath you and gives the hoverboard that super modern look. The lights will change color depending on whether you’re going forward, backward or turning which we think looks awesome.

Wheel size & material
The Hoverfly ECO has 6.5″ solid rubber tires, so you won’t need to worry about inflating them or getting punctures.
Does it come in different colors?
Gotrax produces the Hoverfly ECO in 6 different colors plus the limited edition galaxy print. They all look pretty cool and there should be a style there to fit everyone’s taste!
Build quality and ease of use
Is it easy to ride?
All Gotrax hoverboards come equipped with self-balancing technology which makes them very easy and intuitive to ride, even for inexperienced or new hoverboard riders. It basically means that the board will balance itself when its stationary, which makes mounting and dismounting a painless task.
To actually navigate and turn the hoverboard is just as easy and you should be able to get the basics mastered within a matter of minutes. Gotrax has designed advanced gyroscopic technology which allows you to move back and forth by tilting your weight in the direction you want to go and to turn you just need to adjust the position of your feet.
There are 3 modes with Gotrax hoverboard, the training mode which has reduced speed so that you can learn the basics of how to ride safely, the standard mode which is the next one up, and pro mode once you’re a confident rider. You can also set the max speed through the App if you’d like to make sure that whoever is riding can’t go above a certain speed.
Safety and usability on the road
Like the other Gotrax hoverboards, the Hoverfly ECO comes with non-slip foot grips and bumpers. The Hoverfly ECO is a high-performance hoverboard and handles extremely well, but we still always recommend wearing the appropriate safety gear and only riding it in safe places without traffic.
Is the Gotrax Hoverfly Eco waterproof?
None of the Gotrax hoverboards, including the Gotrax ECO have any kind of waterproof rating, not even water resistant rating, so its best to only use the Gotrax ECO in dry conditions. If your hoverboard is damaged by liquid, you won’t be entitled to a warranty claim, so be careful and don’t use it in the rain or wet conditions!
Gotrax Hoverfly Eco Christmas, Boxing Day & Prime Day Deals 2020
Unfortunately, we were unable to locate any recently updated price charts for the Hoverfly Eco. As such, speculating any future Christmas, Boxing Day or Prime Day deals is rather tricky. However, Gotrax are known to often offer deals on a variety of products throughout the year; as such, we believe Christmas & Boxing Day very likely to include a few discounts here and there. Although, we don’t think that Prime Day will feature significant deals, if any, on the Hoverfly Eco. Furthermore, we couldn’t actually locate any product listing on Amazon for this hoverboard.
That’s not to say that possible Prime Day deals are completely off the table for the Hoverfly Eco, though. For now, we recommend focusing on our coupons, deals and promo code section. Also worth noting is the sudden spike in price before December, indicating that Gotrax aren’t as honest as you may think with their deals. If you’re looking to get the best price, it may be worth waiting to see if there are any Gotrax Hoverfly Eco Black Friday deals, or Cyber Monday deals released in 2020, as we think this could be the best time to buy. However, if you are looking for Gotrax Hoverfly Eco Black Friday deals, do be sure to check previous price history, since some sellers will raise the price of the hoverboard in the lead up to Black Friday & deals week, then lower the price on the day to make it appear that buyers are getting a great discount.
In the example above, the price was raised by around 166% just before Black Friday, then reduced again to make it appear as though there was a substantial discount of 60%. In actual fact, it would have been cheaper to buy the hoverboard before Black Friday.
